Thoughts On Rafael Bush

Do you think Rafael Bush can become a major contributor on the Saints defense. He was playing pretty until he got hurt last season.

I hope we trade him for a 4th round pick. I like Pierre Warren even more than Bush.

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

I'll never forget the hit he put on Percy Harvin in our playoff game vs Seattle, putting him out of the game if I remember right. Either way, Harvin was non-existent after that hit. Definetely worth the 15yd penalty. I think this guy can really play. I certainly like him more than Vaccarro. I just wanna see our best guys on the field as much as possible. We have some tough decisions in the secondary now. What do we do with Vaccarro, Bush and Warren? Factor in Breaux and dare I say we are loaded in the secondary. I assume if Byrd is healthy he starts at free safety for sure.

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

He's more of a True safety than Vaccaro is, we used them both to their strengths in 2013 but tried to make Vaccaro a SS in 2014 and it backfired!

As good as the hit on Percy Harvin was, I actually preferred the one he put on Golden Tate in the same game, Tate was petrified for the rest of the game and even flinched when he saw Bush coming towards him to break up a pass!

Don't forget about Delvin Breaux, Marcus Ball, Kenny Phillips, or even Sunseri... We have plenty of safeties to do the "true" safety role...

Phillips and Byrd could be deadly together :bng:

I like what streif did there, but I also like Kenny's honest concern, and the hit wasn't dirty in my opin

I agree....and they are both from "The U" it was a clean hit that started in the shoulder area.

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

He's one of our top three proven safeties. But he does have trade value and we have a ton of safeties.

Everyone after that is still an unknown. Yes, they all looked good last year in limited action......these young guys will have a year in the system and might be ready to fill a role this season.
Factor in Breaux and we have a lot of talent. We just need to see how things come together in TC. Browner and Lewis will man the corners and we will be able to execute any exotic plays in the secondary.

Thoughts on Bush??

Here is my reasoning ...
1. By scouts and NFL guru's standards, this is not a deep safety class.
2. We possibly have more safeties on the roster than any other NFL team (10 and counting )
3. Pierre Warren and V Sunseri are on the rise and CHEAPER (Bush being the LUXURY).

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Raphael is shopped and subsequently traded.

Trust and believe :bng:

If I could have Bush aggressiveness & speed; Warren vision and ballhawk abilities it will make the perfect safety. Warren can't tackle & bush is more like a expensive luxury player with Vacarro, Byrd & Sanford on the roster

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

something has to give

32 Vaccaro, Kenny S 6-0 214 24 2 Texas
31 Byrd, Jairus S 5-10 203 28 6 Oregon
25 Bush, Rafael S 5-11 200 27 4 South Carolina State

star here

30 Phillips, Kenny S 6-2 217 28 6 Miami (Fla.)
36 Ball, Marcus S 6-1 209 27 1 Memphis
42 Warren, Pierre S 6-2 200 22 R Jacksonville State
38 Sanford, Jamarca S 5-10 200 29 6 Mississippi
43 Sunseri, Vinnie S 6-0 210 21 R Alabama
49 Zimmerman, Ty S 6-1 204 24 R Kansas State

me thinks we are a bit overloaded at safety.

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

Can't see any way imaginable to move Byrd because of that albatross of a contract...

Am halfway expecting Kenny Vaccaro to be among those shipped off just before or during the draft because...

...he's still viewed as a No. 1 pick who had a down season...

...you get some factor of cap relief...

...and there's 'benching' by Coach Payton...

Raphael Bush jersey and tenure is tied to whether Vaccaro stays or goes in the next six weeks...

Pierre Warren should be the safest bet among the reserves, we were fortunate to get him back...

Is Kenny Phillips healthy and can he be at least 89% of the player he was before injury?!?

While Vinnie Sunseri had some fortuitous bounces, he's had to small a sampling size...

Really like Sanford, but his size and inability to force his way onto the field limits his prospects...

Marcus Ball is an impressive physical guy, but he's more of an athelete than a football player...

Really liked when we signed Ty Zimmerman, but his age as a rookie and opportunities limit him...

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

We'll need some of those "expendable" safeties to play ST.

And I think Ryan may be going back to more of the multiple safety looks from 2013

I say keep Bush and get a 3rd for Vacarro.

That's alot of depreciation, I'd rather keep 'em than take that kinda hit...

Don't you mean a BYRD? :)

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

Vaccaro's value might be lower than Bush after the year he had. IMHO he was used poorly by Ryan last year.Kid went from stud to dud . Hopefully his experience was humbling enough for him to get busy proving himself to still be a stud. Byrd will be a better player this season baring injury. Bush if he is not moved is great depth and situational player. Lots of other options with Sunseri, and the rest.Kenny Phillips when healthy is a stud. Don't see us using a draft pick in this spot.

True but we have 400 safeties. Bush and Byrd will probably start with him being the #3 safety.

Re: Thoughts On Rafael Bush

Bush is over-rated by Saints fans. Decent player (which is good) but he's not great at all.

Fans are infatuated by splash highlights and seldom look deeper.
