Maybe just camp body.

profootball focus wrote QBs have a 107.4 passer rating with Kyle Wilson as a slot corner. Does not bode well for our nickel defense.

Re: Kyle Wilson signing with Saints

He's not very good... But I felt like we needed some veteran depth at the position because behind Lewis and Browner there's a whole lot that's unknown. It's good for depth but hopefully he won't see much playing time.

The jets have a decent front seven as well

The fact he's still struggled is worrying.

for the QB? yes! For our chances on 3rd and long if Wilson is our starting slot corner? nope.

Re: Kyle Wilson signing with Saints

as long as his only job is to play nickel then I'm okay with it, now if he has to fill in for Lewis or Browner, its PRob V 2.0

Re: Kyle Wilson signing with Saints

-4.6 according to PFF...

Not as bad as White, but worse than PRob.

Cornerback Kyle Wilson has become a symbol of the bad drafting by the last Jets regime and the perceived penny-pinching of the current one.

Glaring miscues this preseason haven't helped, nor has the former first-round pick's inability to seize a starting role in a secondary riddled with injuries. (Dexter McDougle is out for the year with a torn knee ligament, Dee Milliner may miss the Sept. 7 opener with a high-ankle sprain, and Dimitri Patterson is currently suspended after an unauthorized absence from the team.)

But the truth lies in the middle—of the field, that is. Wilson is the reigning king of the slot cornerbacks, the ones who cover wide receivers between the hashmarks.

Last year, Wilson led all slot cornerbacks by allowing just one reception every 11.63 snaps in slot coverage (24 receptions for 279 coverage snaps). And he allowed only 221 yards on those catches, or 0.79 yards per coverage snap, according to ProFootballFocus.

So if Wilson never moves to the outside as a starter, it doesn't necessarily mean he's not good enough. It may mean that he's just too good at his more specialized role.

And it's an increasingly important role. Last year, a record 66% of offensive snaps across the NFL featured three or more wide receivers, thus requiring the presence of slot cornerbacks like Wilson. (As recently as 2005, only 40% of offensive snaps required a slot cornerback, according to Stats, LLC.) Four of the Jets' early opponents this season—Green Bay, Detroit, San Diego and Denver—used three or more receivers on more than 75% of snaps last season, so Wilson should be in high demand early in the season.

The reasonable question is: Why not have Wilson use his cover skills on the outside when opponents don't use a slot receiver, and move him inside when they do? The reasonable answer: Wilson would likely be at a disadvantage in facing a wide receiver who had just been resting on the sidelines while Wilson was chasing outside receivers on the previous down.

Hope Delvin Breaux or SJB win the slot position. If not we are in trouble.

Yep guys.

It should be forum practice to provide urls to stories and at least a few words if not all of that story.

Back to business:
Saints signed CB Kyle Wilson, formerly of the Jets, to a one-year contract.

Wilson was the 29th overall pick in the 2010 draft by the Jets. He was an unmitigated disaster in New York and saw his snaps cut back last season even with the Jets desperate for capable corners. Wilson is a slot corner-only at 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds. He'll compete for a roster spot in New Orleans. Apr 1 - 11:26 AM

Replacing the 32nd overall pick in the 2010 draft with the 29th is kind of an upgrade I guess!

A fresh start might be what he need, time will tell

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Kyle Wilson

STRENGTHS Wilson is a fast-twitch corner who possesses tremendous athleticism. He’s a durable performer who did not miss any games while at Boise State. Instinctual player who displays great anticipation in pass coverage. Possesses impressive ball skills. Also a candidate to help out in the return game, which only increases his value. Did nothing but produce for the Broncos.

Those aren't part-time players anymore... Kind of an important position.

Then move Lewis or Browner there, all I'm trying to say is if this guy even makes the team, I wouldn't consider him the final piece to the puzzle. An addition maybe but sure as hell not the final piece

why the heck we gonna waste cap space on a guy that has never been any good. I just don't get it. we need to stop going after these retreads. Can we get some fresh young guys please. Wilson is no better than the two dead weights we just got rid of

Let's give him a shot in training camp, what could it hurt? If he struggles he doesn't make the team. If he shines, we get a steal...

I wonder if this has anything to do with Brian Dixon's arrest? Maybe Dixon is getting the boot.

I think the thing that frightens most of us is that we never seem to cut struggling CB's, we just put them out there week after week and watch them get beat.

Times dem are a changing
In the days of hit or be hit football we had QBs crashing motorcycles in the off-season (Big Ben - Pittsburgh).
Now we have finesse football with CBs spluttering along on a moped.
Still in off-season though

Re: Kyle Wilson signing with Saints

If a change gets him up to speed we win and if he just stays as a solid backup or nickel backup he was cheap. win win
