Scratch that: The Saints have signed Joe Morgan to a one-year deal, I'm told.

Wow, Im actually really surprised by this move. The kid has so much skill but lacked maturity. I hope he understands this is his last chance.

It's probably the 1st sentence in his contract

think Sean said 'call that receiver we keep cutting' and the FO called Morgan instead of Tanner? I can't believe we are doing this again. A day late on the joke?

Why not? He already knows the system, the financial risk is low and if he is beat out at camp, show him the door.

I don't see it as a big deal and good for Joe. Sean obviously still believes he has something to offer.

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

I dont see how he is a good signing myself. He is permanently on IR and has been around the league 4 years and has 11 receptions.

If he beats out the competition in camp great but this WR group scares the hell out of me. Take away Colston and Combined they have less TDs than Kelvin Benjamin and only beat his reception total by 10.

I have always loved Joe Morgan. I hope he can finally put all of that physical ability to use. Good luck Joe.

Look at it as a low risk signing. Like Tim Hightower, like Kenny Phillips - all players who've shown they can play in the NFL but are on the verge of or have been out of the league.

Payton does this every year - signs a fringe player with talent who has an outside shot of making it. I'm sure he uses it to motivate others in camp as well.

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

the way I feel is he is being given a chance. No way this is a bad move because he still has to make it through camp. I hope he has grown some, puts the work in, and can get back on that path I felt he was on prior to the injury. I really felt he was about to breakout that season. If he can't beat out the cop he'll get cut, but this is SP and the FO getting all things shored up before the draft so people cannot see what we are going to do. we seem to do this each year

We now have NINE wide receivers on the roster.

NINE safeties.

I wouldn't get that excited either way. I don't think he'll be there come opening day.

cool now all the safeties cover all the receivers and drew has 3 seconds to throw or he is down. 1, 1000. 2, 1000. 3, 1000.

I think that's just it, no guarantee. So either he produces really well or yeah he will be cut. It can't hurt to see if he can get back to where he was

dizzle88 04-03-2015 07:23 AM

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

The thing with Morgan is he tends to make big plays whenever he's in the game

First game he was activated for last year was the ravens in week 13.

3rd play of the game, WR Reverse for 50+ yards

Later in the game beats the ravens on a double moves for a 60 yard catch.

I just hope the maturity issue has gotten better.

Danno 04-03-2015 07:28 AM

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

He's probably injury insurance. He knows our system and players. He'll get in shape with TC and preseason, and if he doesn't make the team he's a phone call away ready to step in immediately. No downside to this signing at all other than he takes a camp body's spot on the preseason roster.

i always loved one thing about his game. those last few YAC. talk about fighting for every single yard you can get. he is a poster child for not avoiding hits

Good signing on the cheap. Loomis ceases to amaze me. This just tells me we're probably not drafting any wr's or cb's. DL, ILB, OL

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

Great signing if he stays away from IR, AND he does not get suspended for reasons we do not know, AND we play the Ravens, AND he had the ball thrown to him at least 12 times.

Otherwise, nice pocket money for the kid whilst it lasts.

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

No biggie here. Morgan screwed up last season. Fact of the matter is, he probably KNOWS this is his last shot in the NFL. Probably desperate. I'd be surprised if we don't see this kid going balls to the wall.

If he didn't see the light after being cut and doesn't give this 1000% then he doesn't deserve to be on the team.

Besides, he can be a perfect example of what will happen if you piss off the coach and take your job for granted.

If he plays his cards right he can be an inspirational leader in the locker room.

Completely agree and his twitter said how thankful he was to have another shot to be part of the whotdat nation. I agree. Before the injury and stuff last year I felt he was headed for a breakout.

I thought Payton was making a point of avoiding players like Morgan. Maybe JM has gotten it together and convinced Payton as much.
Best of luck, and a cheap #5.

My expectations equal that of the Wilson signing. If he makes the team and helps them win then awesome. If he gets cut in preseason, YAWN on to the next guy

I thought Payton sent a message to the team......this has the feel of mixed signals to me. I'm not sure what to think except we were dang low on receivers and he is nothing more than insurance.. He's been here four years and hasn't been all that yet. Here's to hoping this is the season the light comes on.

I'm not sure you could call more than 3 of the 9 WRs. If Morgan makes the team Brees is in trouble.

Re: Saints sign WR Joe Morgan

I've been on this guy's bandwagon for a long time. He has all the tools to be a pro bowl WR. He's everything Stills is not. He goes across the middle, breaks tackles, can beat press coverage and catches with his hands more often than with his body. I could see a WR core of Cooks, Morgan and Toon being very productive. If we can protect Drew and run the football.

Well, no, he has been around 3 seasons and one of those he didn't play. Last year he played in 5 games.

And I don't mean to call you out on being wrong, but um he has 14 catches, thank you very much

Yes I can break out the Morgan Jersey again... I had a lot of hope for the guy... and maybe this will be his year ... when he is in the game the guy is a playmaker

as much as we wined and dined A.A. FOR 7 YEARS (seemed that long) with Arington . joe is much more fine tuned to the game, just needs to listen to the plays called and not free lancing on paytons time. he makes these off the wall catches that make prime time every weekend. and it tells me were not signing white or the Alabama slammer.

Even though he's only caught like 14 passes, the ones he does get are completely ridiculous grabs

He just needs to work on the short game, I've seen him drop countless screens and short slant passes.
