1965 colts starting qb unitas and backup cuozzo (another infamous saint story) both are out with an injury. they bring in a no name off the street but the nfl declares him ineligible for the playoffs. rb tom matte who hadnt played qb since college is forced to start in a playoff game to determine the conference champ in bitter cold green bay. he had a dozen or so plays scribbled on his wristband (high tech then). it was an epoch battle that went 13:39 into overtime. sad for colts fans is that it was won on a field goal that was actually wide right but the field judge called good. can you imagine if an Antwaan Randle El would have been forced into qb duty with a weeks notice? and almost pull it off!

trivia part 2- tom matte was the last nfl player to wear a leather helmet, 1964.
