Saints add seven players to active roster
Posted on January 11, 2003 The New Orleans Saints signed seven players to the active roster, said General Manager of Football Operations Mickey Loomis. They are include one former Grambling player -- running back Walt Williams -- as well as tackle P.J. Alexander, fullback Demetrius Smith, wide receiver Nate Turner, safety Corey Hall, defensive tackle Jovon Bush and C Terence Wagner. Williams, a 6-0, 210-pound running back from GSU, is a Baton Rouge native who prepped at Brusly High School. Originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2001, Williams spent that season on the Patriots' injured reserve list and also went to training camp with New England in 2002. Alexander, a 6-4, 297-pound tackle from Syracuse, was originally signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent and spent the 2002 season on the team's Practice Squad. Smith, a 6-2, 255-pound fullback from Southwest Missouri State was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent and spent 2002 on the team's Practice Squad. Turner, a 6-3, 210-pound wide receiver from Nevada-Las Vegas, spent part of the 2002 season on the Saints Practice Squad after being released by the San Diego Chargers on Aug. 25. Turner was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chargers in 2001, spending 13 weeks on their practice squad that season before being signed to their active roster for the final two games, appearing in one. Hall, a 6-4, 203-pound safety from Appalachian State, was originally a seventh-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2001. After spending the start of his rookie season on Atlanta's Practice Squad, Hall was signed to Atlanta's active roster on Oct. 16 and saw action in three games. Hall was waived by the Falcons on Aug. 27, 2002. Bush, a 6-4, 300-pound defensive tackle from Clemson, spent 2002 training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was waived by the Jaguars on Aug. 25. Wagner, a 6-2, 290-pound center from Sacramento State, was signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on April 22, 2002, and was waived by the Giants on Aug. 26. Wagner was a four-year starter at Sacramento State. |
