Anyway, I'm a little surprised by the enthusiasm of this potential signing. I guess I'll be in the minority today. He didn't seem like a guy who had much left before he went to Minnesota, and when he got there he did less than I expected. This would be someone to pick up if you're a desperate team looking to add a name. And as for locker room presence, that's all fine and good, but it really takes a lot of those guys to make a difference. He might come in and make a few plays here and there, but we already have guys who can do that. I remember way back in 2000, when I was just a little too young to know better, I got all excited when we signed Jake Reed, because I knew he was a really good player for the Vikings. He was already washed up by this time, but I didn't follow other teams closely enough at that time to realize it. He looked like a dinosaur out there in the short time he played for us, and then broke his leg if I remember correctly. I see Jennings in a similar mold. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Jennings was clearly on the way down before he left Green Bay. You can't use the excuse of different offense on that one. I'm not insulting the guy, I'm simply calling it as I see it. He got hurt toward the end of his tenure with the Packers and when he came back he still looked beat up, and STILL looks that way to me. If we sign him, I'm sure it won't be for much so I don't view it as a risk, per se, but I'm also not excited by it. Spiller is about 7-8 years younger, I believe. Not even a comparison there. |
