Anyone hear about this?

Murder probe involving LSU G/T … Baton Rouge police reportedly want to speak with former LSU G/T La’el Collins, a first-round prospect for Thursday’s draft who is presumably on his way to Chicago, about the shooting death of a pregnant ex-girlfriend of his over the weekend. Collins is not a suspect according to police in Baton Rouge, but is seen as someone who can provide some information about the victim.

Heard this morning.

Real bad timing as his agent is saying they are in contact and he isn't a suspect. Can you take the risk?

I take it myself especially in trading back. Id do the same with Peters and possibly DGB too.

You just wonder if teams panic. Especially with little time to investigate. If a any of the players have got there heads sorted there are going to be bargains eith the flagged players

Sound politically he isn't a suspect maybe due circumstances. I can't see the D.A making a request statement like that so close to the draft with out probable cause. Hopefully, this isn't another Rae Carruth situation but I hate to say it but I will take him off the board

IDK, they said there has been no contact between him and her since last September. Maybe they are just following any lead because they're not close to solving it. Anything is possible, but I didn't take that from the info, but shoot, truthfully, what do I know?? Nada

Hope the catch whoever took away this young lady's life. Terrible tragedy with two kids left behind. Why are there so many mean people in this world.

I read he's not a suspect, the police are talking to him since it's his ex. Perfect timing, he should be there at 13 now

Just my 2 cents, but, I think when it gets this close to the draft, teams look for a reason NOT to draft a guy. Something to justify to themselves, and maybe fans, picking another player. This could offer teams that justification even though it may turn out to be nothing other than he happened to date someone who was murdered later.

All these players involved in questionable activities its quite the indictment on our society. Only one post mentioned the poor woman that lost her life. Another child orphaned. I wonder if Collins is the father? Crummy timing if he is not Involed.

What's really scary, dirty is when teams put stories out on a prospect in hopes that he'll fall in the draft...

If there was anyway to prove it, they should bring the hammer down on those teams for it, compensate the player for potential lost earnings...

He'd have to be missing lots of cog wheels up there if he decided to make this happen right before one of the best days of his life.

I don't believe he drops though, teams are compensated in that event. It's not like a complete waste.

Advances from his agent most likely. Gifts, money from endorsements, family, etc. as well. How do you think all these athletes are all blinged out and in fancy attire prior to signing a contract?

I think this was the least I've ever followed football during the off season in the past 20 years. I don't even want to speculate, google, and regurgitate someone else's info to use as my own. I honestly have no clue beyond the top few position prospects... will be looking forward to all the scouting reports you guys post afterwards. :bng:

If Collins is the father then hiring a PI makes sense. Even being an X that is the mother to your child. If this is the case it says a lot about him as a person.

You hire one because this story is affecting your draft stock. Going from the top half of the first round to the lower half or later means a lot of money.

You are quite right sir. I don't think this woman's family is concerned with Collins' draft stock right now. Prayers for them and the, now, motherless child.

Him not talking to cops until after the draft certainly complicate things. Originally I didn't think it would hurt his draft stock, but now, given teams don't have anything but Collins' word to go on, I'd probably also pass on taking him early... which is a shame as that's who I really wanted. With that said, I'd still take a chance on him with our 3rd pick.

I always like to look at people as innocent until proven guilty. He is the sort of player we need.

Its just finding the sweetspot that you can select him. Then het a contract that voids all guaranteed money if he is charged with the crime.
