I'm fine with taking a tackle. Not so much on taking Peat, however. I felt like La'el Collins would have been a good pick, but for whatever reason teams have turned their backs on him for something he appears to have nothing to do with. That being the case, I didn't like any of the other tackles as first rounders, With Peat and Humphries being my least favorites.

When you read his strengths and weaknesses they're all "he's good at this, this, this and this........ Oh and he also sucks at all those things we just said." That tells me nothing. When I look at some of his footage, he just doesn't look very dominating at all. And you better be dominating the college level if you're going to be a first rounder. To me, he's at best a second round project like Armstead was. Though Terron's physical tools gave us much more to work with.

Obviously I hope he works out, but I just really don't agree with taking such an unpolished player that high.

I'm not going to lie. I don't think I like this pick. We are gonna have to draft another olineman. But it will have to be fourth round.

Is he gonna be NFL ready? I think this was a panic pick in reaction to Beasley.

Yeah I'm the same, I'll gladly admit I was wrong if it works out but I think it was a hasty decision bearing in mind our real problems on OL are currently at guard.

I would have rather us taken a pass rusher at #13, couple of guys were still there.

I dont think it was a panic.
In some ways we were very unlucky. Out of the top 15 talents 3 of the players that would have been on our board have major issue last few weeks. Who was really overlooked?
Dupree fell 10-15 spots lower than the media said showing that the men paid to pick players didn't go with the offseason hype. Malcom Brown dropped to 32 when talk was anywhere from 9-25. So who knows.

Peat was the number 1 LT in mocks during the whole college season.
Look at how many of the OT taken the past couple of years struggled year one. Peat has a man with the same size and weight,a team guy to bring him through for the first year if needs be.

I LOVE this pick! A big guy with great feet. His height-weight ratio tells me that he could pack on 10-20 more pounds without getting slower. Good long arms. And he went to Stanford as a psychology major which should mean he is pretty darn smart. I believe we will see Streif getting phased out and this looks like a good replacement.

with Collins slipping Peat became the solid #2 OT of the draft. This is a great pick, not as sexy as we would all like but a great pick to fill the holes on our line and immediate plug and play

They have to, it is not just competition, it is also some form of plan, and we have depth that we did not have last year. Someone suggested strife might be able to play guard. No idea, but they know what they're doing, and this kid is fast, good athlete.

I would have went defense 1st but it's a good pick.
Would have also went interior OLine but OK.
If Payton is serious (this time) about balance and running the football,
this new blood will help.
They got the best player on their board with the most upside.
I think he'll do fine. And for the next 3-4 years, he's reasonably cheap.

From SP's comments, I really think we would have taken Shelton had the Browns not, but when the Browns did take him we took the BPA, which is always a smart thing

We got our QB of the defense for years to come. If Spencer works out for us and we draft another LB, we might not be in such bad LB shape. Need to get a NT to push/overtake Jenkins, or at least add to the rotation.

The common theme here is that people on this board get locked into a guy or position they want. If the pick doesn't happen, then they are disappointed :argue:. We were either average to below average on the O line last season & we addressed this twice (Unger & Peat). I think Sean & the rest of our brain trust have a game plan, otherwise he wouldn't have been on our board.

Peat came from Stanford which was a power run team. Saints are showing that they plan on running the ball a lot more this year. Armstead is a pass protection LT and is going into his last year. This was a great pick.

Beasley is a great pass rusher. Peat is a great run blocker. Beasley learned how to tackle from Deion Sanders (which means he cant tackle RB's). Run towards him and push him into the stands. Again, everyone *****ed about not running the ball enough and now we pick a road grader and people are freaking out. I like the pick.

Yeah, but I do not thik Armistead is going anywhere. He's been good, plus he gets out into space well. The good thing about this kid is he is athletic too

I think it was JP who brought up an interesting point: you put Peat in as the LT and move Armstead in as the RT, which will in effect make Armstead's price go down for the contract talks.

I don't know if it's that simple, but it does sound like a solid plan if it works out.

Commentator took a shot at Armstead when Peat was picked...
as if Armstead was a flop. Our troubles weren't from Brees' blind side,
our troubles were up the middle on the passing lanes.
Armstead did a heck of a job (IMHO).
This kid will be a great addition and is young enough to flow where needed.
I think both he and Armstead could do left or right. They both have the feet and hands.

One thing I learned about SP... NEVER EXPECT who you think he is going to draft. The only except is if the player has a NFL father/DNA Which is one of the reasons I think we snagged peat.

So I didn't go into it for a player or position I just wanted to see what rabbit we were going to pull out of our hat and we did,

That was mentioned on the radio today. Payton did mention that our tackles are going to remain tackles so that tells me Lelito is going to play guard unless we draft one tonight. To be honest,I think Lelito will be just fine....not to mention,we also have Kelemente.

I think our back up OL is Lelito. They weren't comfy with him as a starter and we went out and brought in whats his name who I don't like either, lol.

Lelito got pushed around a lot last season. IMO he's the weak link that needs to be replaced unless he improved greatly in the off season.

I was thinking the opposite; Lelito at center did fine, it was Evans at guard who struggled mightily due to injury. Grubbs also struggled at times. Armstead/Strief were pretty solid

Lilito barely played last season,and we he did, he played well. Not saying he was a stud,but he played well and should be better with Unger by his side.

Well or sufficient isn't good enough when you have a 20 million dollar QB you need to protect and try and win a SB.

If he played well and was the answer we certainly wouldn't have traded Jimmy in for a CENTER.

I never said he was the answer for center.His primary position is guard and you don't have to have a pro bowler for every position on the o line to have a good o line.

Payton was high on Armstead, and I think everyone agreed he was playing well before getting hurt.
