Somehow I don't believe you on never doubting a move before they played on the field, but I'll just take your word on it for now. These players may not have played for the Saints yet, but we have seen them play. We're not exactly predicting what a baby is gonna do when he/she grows up.

You can watch hundreds of hours of film if you want to. That's when you start to over analyze. What's available for the general public is plenty enough. it's hard to find a game that is not on tv. And if it's on tv, then you can find replays and watch every play. I don't dispute that scouts watch more film than I do, and some of them are very good at what they do. But some over analyze and make huge mistakes on players. I see nothing malicious in pointing that out.

You do realize by that statement you have just "judged" every single player in this class without them playing for us yet?

If that was the case, then why would the scouts/coaches even bother with interviewing or holding private workouts, going to pro days, etc...

Wouldn't it be a lot easier just sitting in the office watching the tv games and youtube?

Just remember to err is human nature. I'm not one to think that I can scout and draft better than those who have done it for years and been around the best in doing it

You do realize they are until they show me otherwise on or off the field?

in essence, innocent until proven guilty

or you can call me an optimist rather than a negativist

I'm talking film specific. Interviews are about trying to get to know the guy. How well does that work out? Are they gonna out themselves in an interview? You can get character references from a lot of sources. These guys, as hard as they may try, do not live very private lives.

I don't think I know everything, and I don't even claim to know more than the Saints do about this player. But I know enough to have the opinion that they reached. Sometimes teams go with a gut feeling on a player they he has the ability to fit better and grow more than another player even if he doesn't have a first round grade. That's where reaches happen. Maybe they end up being right. Or maybe they aren't. We'll see, but I simply don't agree with it.

And, in essence, so am I. My case in point. If I can't say it's a reach, then you can't say it isn't.

I believe the word you were looking for was pessimist. And yes, you can call yourself an optimist if you want. And you can call me a pessimist. Only that wouldn't be true. I don't disagree with every decision, only some.

I call it like I see it. It's easy to say something after the fact, but where is the fun in that discussion?

negativist is a noun = one who exhibits negativism... I "think" I used it correctly

I'm glad you think you're smart. I know negativist is a word. Pessimist was the more fitting word of what you seem to think of people like me who have doubts about certain things. I "think" you should "think" before attempting a jab.

You had no response for my point above, so you try the bully tactic. Nice... This isn't junior high, however.

bully tactic? defensive much? As for your point I never said one way or the other whether Anthony was a reach, that was you. My whole point was that we as fans do not have the same means to know what is going on during the draft that the people in charge do.

Todd, Here is the post I did...

So the way the trade worked out to this point...

Saints got All-Pro Center Max Unger and drafted LB Stephone Anthony with the No.31 selection.

Seattle got All-Pro Tight End Jimmy Graham and the Saints' R4 #112 pick.

Seattle then traded pick R4 #112, along with picks R3 #95, R5 #167 & R6 #181 for Washington's R3 #69; Seahawks used the R3 #69 pick to select WR Tyler Lockett.

And Washington used our original pick R4 #112 to select G Arie Kouandjio.

With the other picks, Washington selected RB Matt Jones with R3 #95 and SS Kyshoen Jarrett with pick R6 #181 (originally a Jets pick that Seattle got in the Percy Harvin trade).

Ironically, Washington traded the R5 #167 pick to...

...the New Orleans Saints, who selected DB Damian Swann...

Washington used the Saints 2015 R6 #187 pick to select WR Evan Spencer and also got the Saints 2016 R6 pick - so the saga continues...

Got all that? Good.

Still, I'd say that's a great deal for New Orleans.

And Jimmy Graham?

The Seahawks are taking the All-Pro Outstanding Receiver at Tight End and making him...

...a Blocker!!!

Jean, great job here. To the average fan this might appear convoluted and be intimidating to unravel. Once I looked this over, however, it became quite easy. Championshipppp

This will be the pivotal pick to how good the trade was for us. it may not be the cake. that is Unger and Anthony. the icing on the cake is Swann or is he?

Add the extra pick to get him makes it even more doubtful IMO.

In Swann I see more as a safety than CB. might explain the cuts of Zimmerman and Ball. I just do not see him as a starter at either the Safety or CB position. he could very easily end up being that 5th or 6th CB/S player that is a special team player mostly.

This could turn into the move that dulls the trade all together. with the other talent on the board it will be hard for him to measure up in round 6 much less round 5. add in the baggage of a pick traded for him and ....

Charles Gains in the 6th was the best nickle dime cover guy on the board since the end of round 4.

well we will see. crow in the freezer

on the good side i can stop going on about our first pick with this move.

Everyone has been wrong about something, true. Being wrong doesn't deserve mockery. Being wrong for making ridiculous assertions, and continuing to argue your case even though you have been undeniably proved wrong, that does warrant mockery... For years... Maybe forever.
