Like the Doniel Gambrell, OL, Notre Dame of Ohio signing...

Ashaad Mabry looks has the physical tool to be a good third NT for us...

Really wish we could have gotten Albany TE Brian Parker who signed with the San Diego SuperChargers...

Ole Miss FS, former All American, signed with the Titans...

Spanish Fort's Reese Dismukes signed with the Steelers...

he'll compete with another Center in B.J. Finney...

Where will La'el geaux?

DE Lynden Trail signed with the Texans...

Would like to have added him and got him bulked up...

Ah, this is exactly what I wanted to read. 2 more olineman. Hickey sounds HUGE! 6-5 and 309lbs!!

Sean Hickey, OL, Syracuse

could be the steal of UDFA. OT to OG all the way

jeanpierre 05-02-2015 10:47 PM

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

Hickey will probably spend the year on the practice squad to beef up his lower body and learning to anchor...

He's built more like a tight end with superb upper body strength...

The past few seasons we were overboard with WR's, some way overpaid, and it showed. The drops were crazy. I think Payton is taking a page from Belichick's book - protect Brees and if WR's go down, their are always free agents bouncing around. Biggest difference in our team from 2009/2011 to 2012, 2013 and 2014 was very poor protection of Brees. Last year he was on the run and pitching the ball wildly... all while we had a stable of overpaid WR"s who under-performed at every turn - Jimmy Graham included.

Granted, I would have LOVED to keep Stills!!!

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

Biggest problem I have with regard to the Saints and WRs is we always too many and they can't get enough touches to develop and show what they have...

Colston might never have made this team now if the roster wasn't barren when he got here...

That said, the Bengals signed a guy I'd like to have gotten a look at in Jake Kumerow WR Wisconsin-Whitewater or Broncos signee Jordan Taylor out of Rice...

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

my issue is we are always way over rated at WR. Imagine what Drew could do if the WR were 75% of the hype over the years. thus the reason i believe we always carry so many.

jeanpierre 05-02-2015 11:14 PM

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

Hagan, most of the hype regarding our WR is here on our home board...

Colston gets no hype in the national media, but I'd take him over all but maybe four, five receivers in the NFL the past nine years...

But I'd agree that we don't appear to be that deep at WR, but we're deeper than most...

And after all the belly-aching about our defense, I got no problem ignoring WR for one draft...

We still don't know what we got in WR Jalen Saunders who'll have a full off season to acclimate to our offense...

I'd like to have gotten a stud "x" wide receiver, but taking Stephone Anthony and KaKow was the better, necessary path...

I wanted Chris Conley, but Andy Reid reached up and got him in the third for the Chiefs...

Was it a GREAT draft, neaux...

But considering it was the first with Ireland, I see a remarkable improvement in both quality of selections and draft management...

My only issue was not moving up for Beasley and letting the Clowns get him, but I don't know if Sean Mickey Ireland decided he wasn't all that or the price was too steep...

Isn't an ex-Saints coach HC at Syracuse now? If so Loomis should have pretty good insight on this cat.

I'd keep an eye on Jordan Taylor, he killed UH when I watched them. If he gets cut by DEN. I like the Bobby Richardson signing and I agree, about time they made the offensive line a priority again, its what lead to the team's success in 2009

Doug Marrone hasn't been at Syracuse for a couple years now. He quit on the Bills in the offseason and that's why Rex is the new Bills coach. I'm sure he gave Loomis some info though

Just watching the saints interviews on the official site.

I reckon we should throw the dice on Joe Horn. Looks like he could still play!.

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

Indiana DL Bobby Richardson

NFL.com highest rated UDFA, was projected mid rounder. Kind of a DE/DT tweener. like Walker was.

Quote:

STRENGTHS: Light on his feet with the lateral quickness to sidestep blocks and close on the quarterback...good flexibility and body control for the position, making him a moving target for blockers...uses his long arms and large hands to effectively rip through blocks or reach into the sky - six pass break-ups and three blocked kicks in his career...very good backfield vision and run awareness to quickly locate...smart player who diagnoses quickly to sniff out plays and react.

Motor doesn't quit, working through the whistle...versatility to play inside and outside with experience up and down the defensive line in college...senior captain and self-made player who works hard between games to improve - coachable and works his tail off in practice...adequate production for the position, averaging almost five tackles per start at Indiana...offers versatility for even and odd fronts.
Notice a pattern?

No G, WR, or TE in a draft full of quality at all three positions. Not a fan of the QB pick or the RB pick.

Agreed that I would have liked one of each, but I can't complain about who we picked at all. Every pick should help immediately as either starteres, solid back-ups or special teams studs.

My least favorite pick was also Grayson, but I understand why. The draft isn't for filling holes in the current roster. Its for stocking your team with better players than the 31 other teams for continued success year in and year out.

Payton said he was very pleased with the progress of Coleman and Seantavius Jones.

We still have Colston, Cooks, Toon, Saunders, Coleman, Jones, Morgan and even Spiller who will probably catch 50 passes from Brees year in and year out.

I think we'll still address some minor holes with free-agents, TE being one of them.

Priority Free Agent: Notre Dame College tackle Doniel Gambrell signs with New Orleans Saints: NFL Draft 2015

Notre Dame College tackle Doniel Gambrell signs with New Orleans Saints: NFL Draft 2015 | cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Notre Dame College offensive lineman Doniel Gambrell of Cleveland turned down an offer from the Browns and signed with the New Orleans Saints shortly after the 2015 NFL Draft on Saturday. Gambrell also received a priority free agent offer from the Green Bay Packers after he went unclaimed in the draft.

"I already knew at the beginning of the draft that New Orleans was one of the top teams that was pushing for me and was interested,'' said Gambrell a Glenville graduate. "Toward the end of the draft, New Orleans was calling, the Browns were calling and Green Bay was calling.

"The Browns were really interested. They were upset when I told them I signed with New Orleans. It was hard to say no, but at the same time it looks like my best opportunity was going to be the New Orleans.''

Gambrell and his agent, Peter Schaffer of Denver, said New Orleans has more opportunity at offensive guard. The Saints have some aging linemen and took a tackle in the first round, Stanford's Andrus Peat, but they did not draft a guard. The Browns have a rising star in Joe Bitonio at left guard and spent one of their first-round picks on Florida State offensive lineman Cameron Irving, who could play guard.

Undrafted players are free to sign with any team they choose. The money isn't all that great and very few get any type of signing bonus.

They are also free to re-negotiate their contracts after 2 years. Drafted players must wait a minimum of 3.

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

add another to the mix, sounds like a outsider to make the roster

MALCOME KENNEDY TEXAS A&M

6'0"
HEIGHT

205LBS.
WEIGHT

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Generally reliable hands when asked to catch over the middle. Good size for a slot receiver. Scouts say he has football intelligence you look for. Tough player. Willing to work the middle when called on. Played hurt. Creates leverage downfield through quality of his routes. Finds ways to make defenders miss at times in space, despite average athleticism.

WEAKNESSES
Shows very little functional acceleration to open passing windows against man coverage. Primarily a possession receiver who benefited from system. Waits too long on throws to get to him rather than snatching with extended arms. Marginal athleticism. Dances a little too much after the catch. Doesn't make as many tough catches as he could.

DRAFT PROJECTION Priority free agent

BOTTOM LINE Possession receiver who did most of his work from the slot. Saw a slew of poorly thrown balls his way when wandering beyond five yards, but didn't show a consistent ability to turn a bad throw into a catch. Lacking speed and quickness teams look for from slot.

Re: 2015 UDFA Signings

And Another

Sam Wren DE Oklahoma
Cant find much

Per a source, the defending NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks are working out Oklahoma State hybrid DE/OLB Sam Wren in Oklahoma on April 14th. Wren finished his senior season with 25 tackles in which seven went for a loss. He also added two sacks and wasted little time impacting the Cowboys’ defense after coming from the Juco level.

Wren originally began his collegiate career at Arizona Junior College earning first-team All-Western States Football League honors after accumulating 14.5 sacks. He also was named defensive MVP of the 2012 El Toro Bowl. He recorded 12 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, and one sack in the MVP performance.

He made a rather easy transition into the Big 12. Wren demonstrates a great ‘get off’ on the ball and never quits on the play. His non-stop motor is difficult not to notice as well as his ability to apply pressure on the quarterback. Wren resembles a combination of both Von Miller and Aldon Smith as he uses the ‘dip move’ like Miller to perfection.

Seattle lost two edge rushers via free agency with O’Brien Schofield (Atlanta Falcons) and Malcolm Smith (Oakland Raiders) signing with new teams. There is not a glaring hole in the Seattle defense, but finding more capable players’ similar to Wren is likely on the Seahawks draft agenda.

Remember not all these players signed. Some are just camp invites

Sean Hickey looks to be a solid OT to OG candidate. was toying around with him as a late round draft pick. he was ranked as a possible 6th.

Cyril Lemon i do not know much about but based on stats i do not see much. then again 40 yard dashes are pretty pointless for OL. his cone and 10 split were pretty good so seeing what happens. it could be fun.

Sean Hickey, OT
School: Syracuse | Conference: ACC
College Experience: Senior | Hometown: Murrysville, PA
Height/Weight: 6-5 / 309 lbs.
STRENGTHS: Solidly put-together with adequate height and build. Light feet and natural flexibility, not playing stiff. Sets up quickly and gets into position, squaring and staying alert with controlled movements.

Patient off the snap and mirrors well with consistent marriage between his footwork and eye use. Improved base, digging his cleats in to anchor, extending and using his strong hands and wrists to absorb contact. Good snatch and release in space to avoid holding calls. Mobile with no issues getting to the second level. Utilizes angles and anticipates well as he's not often fooled by extra pressures, picking up blitzes quickly pre and post snap.

Comfortable and confident playing demeanor. Hard worker with a professional approach to the game. NFL-ready and high effort player, on and off the field. Experienced at left and right tackle, starting 38 straight games to finish his college career.

--Dane Brugler
Player Overview
Although he will need time to acclimate himself to the physicality of the next level, Hickey has the mental makeup and starter potential to be a top 125 pick, ideally suited at guard in a zone blocking scheme.

He's definitely a LG prospect, and looks like a very good one
