Re: Grade the OVERALL 2015 Saints draft?

OK, let's grade the 2011 Draft:

Cameron Jordan - B. 29 sacks, 65 games. Disappears, average against the run. Better lately, but needs to play smarter

Mark Ingram - C+. Injuries, inconsistencies. 2400 yards rushing in 4 years. Better lately, but mostly a 1 dimensional back.

Martez Wilson - F. Out of football

Johnny Patrick - F. Lasted 2 years. OOF.

Greg Romeus - F. 1 year practice squad. OOF

Nate Bussey - F. active for 1 game, cut 2011. OOF

Hmmm. I'd give this draft a D, only out of respect for Cam Jordan.

Wait! THIS is the year that Romeus gets that starting job.

Never grade a draft specifically on immediate need. You grade based on the prospect.

We drafted some guys who look like better prospects than most anyone else we've drafted in years.

Talented
Fast
Smart
Productive
Physical (well, most of them)
Leaders

Throw in the fact they also fit needs, and I think this was an excellent draft.

Drew Brees completed 70% of his passes last year and the offense was like top 5 in the league or better. Actually, with Brees at QB, the Saint's offense has never finished worse than 6th in the league. Other than Jimmy Graham, they've never had an A-List offensive player. Personally, I expect great things from Josh Hill next year and Ben Watson is a good player too. I love our backfield. Ingram and Spiller are both good and compliment each other perfectly. The RB from Missouri is special. He is a STUD returner which we desperately need. He hits the hole hard, has great vision and rarely dances. He is a short strider with great balance who made a lot of big time plays against SEC defenses. I am really hoping for Joe Morgan to step up this year. At the end of last season, Toon showed some flashes too. He can break tackles. Everyone sells Cooks short. He is the real deal and not just a screen runner.

You do realize what you did at the beginning and end there?

Max Unger is 29 years old and is an All-Pro and will be a great improvement in our run game...

Armstead...older? He's still in his rookie (3rd round) contract; and if he moves to right tackle, he'll be the best right tackle in the league...

Evans is old, but he has been injured; and he's a multiple All-Pro so don't put him down with Old Yeller just yet...

There is only one football; we had to get some talent to the other side of the ball...

Most teams don't even have two receivers like we have at the top of our depth chart...

The young guys now have a year in the system and just need the reps for a true evaluation...

Josh Hill will be a league leader in receiving, for sure among tight ends; Ben Watson is a tremendous leader for out team; and let's see what the UDRFA dwarves dragged in from the mine before we condemn, okay?!?

Know This: Our Running Backs are Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller, Khiry Robinson, Marcus Murphy (R7, #230), Tim Hightower and Fullbacks Austin Johnson and Erik Lorig - We have the Best Running Back Corps in the NFL right now!

Well, nobody had question marks about the Saints - and we were all wrong!
