Sean Payton: Joe Morgan “deserved” another chance with team
Saints wide receiver Joe Morgan had issues on and off the field before he was released last season, but Saints coach Sean Payton said he thought Morgan “deserved” a chance to come back.
Since the post-draft press conference was the first chance for Payton to address it since Morgan was re-signed in April, the Saints coach said Morgan “took a number of initiatives to do some things to work on getting an opportunity to come back.” “It was a handful of things that were really just between us and the player,” Payton added, via Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. Morgan flashed talent, but had just five touches last year (including a 67-yard rush). But he was also a headache, as he was suspended two games early last year for undisclosed reasons, and then cut late in the season. He was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving in 2013 as well. “We had a long visit with him, sat down and spent some time with him,” Payton said. “He’s someone that I feel like I know real well, and I know Mickey [Loomis] feels the same way. And we felt comfortable with bringing him back on the roster. He’s someone that’s really developed. “We’ve got a lot of time on task with Joe as a receiver, and I feel like we’ve got a lot of time on task with him as a person.” You’d think he’d have a better opportunity to hang around this year, after the Saints got rid of Kenny Stills, and didn’t make any significant adds in free agency or the draft. I hope he rises to the occasion, but I'm not holding my breath.

Lack of depth at WR makes SP have amnesia for the DWI.
I hope it was too much drugs that hurt his performance last year as opposed to the opposite! |

Joe Morgan may be one of the weirdest players in the whole NFL, every time the guy touches the ball its for 20-30 yards at least but he's wildly inconsistent. I hope he develops into something more polished. He has such potential if you ask me, why he isn't better im not too sure.

Dude has made big plays and shown the entire repertoire of big time skills needed to succeed. We all know this. He's as big and fast as Beckham Jr. Surely without 11" hands of course, but still a legit talent. I'm a big supporter of his. But I keep getting disappointed.

he is back and I hope the time off he the rehab he needed.
team depth and talent at WR more than opened the door for a WR that has been with us before. here a prayer to making a full 16 game season while logging in serious playing time. god I will cut to the chase here. i am scared. we need this kid please watch over him. |

He was brought back because the Saints need a 3rd and 4th WR in a bad way. Seriously, who do the Saints have after projected starters Colston and Cooks?

I still think we sign a vet or two, and there's always Meachem and Moore looming in the shadows. Toon Jones Coleman Morgan Not a terrible 3 thu 6, but not impressive either. |
