Davis Tull's life has been all about bad timing.
There was the broken femur at the beginning of his senior year of high school that caused colleges to back off his recruitment. He eventually ended up walking on at Tennessee-Chattanooga. Tull wasn't able to run the 40-yard dash at the Combine this string because of a hamstring issue, although he was able to post impressive numbers in the other drills. Then there was the torn labrum that potentially dropped him from a third round selection to a fifth rounder, where he was eventually taken by the New Orleans Saints. Now the rest is up to him. "I think that's the story of his life," said Marcus West, Tull's college position coach "He's had to earn it and get everything the hard way. And he has no problem doing it." Shortly before the draft, West said that he had a feeling Tull would be drafted late or not at all. It wasn't because of a lack of talent, but because that's the way these things have gone his entire life. read more |

Re: Saints rookie Davis Tull motivated by difficult journey to NFL, former coach says
Adversity and overcoming it build character. It makes people tougher and playing with a chip on your shoulders provides motivation. You learn that you should never take things for granted . You become vigilant and have more gratitude for the things that come your way.. Sounds like my kind of player.

Re: Saints rookie Davis Tull motivated by difficult journey to NFL, former coach says
He will most likely get cut, or put on the practice squad. Just look at team history to compare. The saints rarely take risks with injury prone players selected out of the draft. He was simply the best player left on the board at that point. I wish him the best of luck, but competition is thick this year.

I used to teach martial arts at UTC. They have never had a strong football program so I'm pulling for the young man. He has all the tools to make it in the NFL.
