Re: Zach Strief: Andrus Peat will take my job eventually
purely a RT prospect?????
he was the best pure LT prospect in the draft. he has never played RT. If the saints drafted him to play RT they truly miss scouted this kid. that also would make even more concerned with the saints pegging Collins as a OG. if right tackle is the spot they are envisioning him to play then i really think he wont be starting right out of camp or the saints believe he has to learn on the job and stepping up into the pocket will be huge. So the jimmy trade makes even more sense now. So Zach Strief saying: "Andrus Peat will take my job eventually" The eventually part marks absolute sense. it will take longer for him to learn RT and learn to deal with the speed of the NFL than training him up for LT and sliding Terron over to RT. Do not get me wrong I like the kid. i thought the giants would take him or Collins. At the same time I would not have been shocked to see him on the board when the panthers picked either. due to inconsistencies in his play Talent and size are there but the kid really needs some serious polish work done to his game. I do not see him starting. I see plenty of playing time without a doubt. I am happy with that senior for year 1. years 2 he should be ready to step right in. anything early will be a pleasant surprise. next years draft could be fun to see what the saints pick. OL again? The Peat pick really has me wondering what the overall strategy the saints are using for the future up front. |

Top ten defenses are what you build to compete against. want a super bowl push? you can not do it with an old school RT anymore. Pass happy offenses have led to more sub packages on defenses than any standard defensive set. That means speed on both ends on the field easily 70% of the time. Especially when the elite defenses take the field. So your RT like Zach and i hate to say it are becoming a thing of the past very quickly. Peat needs some work sure but he has everything you look for in a POWER LOT. As a ZONE blocking OT that still needs to work on that. He should pick that part up pretty quickly. It's the foot work at OT i worry about the most right now. It needs work. even more if he is to start at RT. But the upside indicates he just needs some time and coaching that is all and he will be ready to go. how quick he picks it up? i give it max a year Like i said before next year should be the year we are really able to cash in on the kid. Anything earlier is a nice bonus. |

Re: Zach Strief: Andrus Peat will take my job eventually
I watched an interview with Peat and he said alot of things are the same as what they did at Stanford just the terminology is different. Coming from a pro style offense, this kid might be more pro ready that we think. Preseason performance will give us a better idea of what may happen. Taking Strief off the field may not be the best idea right now because he is a captain, but Unger may fill that void.

Great to have options other than pulling a guy from PS and having him start, eh? |

I don't think Armstead is a fit at RT at all. He looks like a LT, has LT feet and LT athleticism. I don't think he'd succeed at RT at all. BUT... as you said, todays NFL is much different. Having a RT with LT skills may be a good idea on a pass happy team like we are. Maybe there's no longer a need for that power blocking RT anymore. And in a zone blocking scheme athleticism plays a much bigger role than power does. So maybe Armstead to RT isn't as bad as I think. Yeah Payton is talking about running more, again. I'll believe that when we see it. No matter how it shakes out, I'm sold that we made the right choice in Peat. Here's my prediction (for 2015) LT-Armstead (Peat IF Armstead gets hurt again) LG-Lelito C-Unger RG-Evans RT-Strief (Peat by mid season, or if Strief gets hurt) |
