Re: Zach Strief: Andrus Peat will take my job eventually

I'm extremely skeptical of Peat, period. I can see where there is potential, but then you could say that about most first rounders. I feel like he's too much of a project, but we'll see. Playing guard, though? No freaking way. At his height DT's will swim underneath him way too easily. I'm not worried about him being in front of Drew. The issue is totally about leverage, and the reason Tackles are always taller than guards is because you can use that height as leverage on edge rushers. But on the inside those defenders are trying to get underneath you and push back the pocket, so you need to be on their level as a guard. The QB's vision would be another reason for it, but again, that isn't my biggest problem with the idea.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but it's quite rare, and Peat doesn't fit the mold for guard in my opinion.

if I could like this post more I would, its why I played center and guard since I was only 5'6 and "husky" when I played

Both Payton and Loomis said they were looking for players that could start right away in the very early rounds. That is exactly what I am expecting from both Peat and Anthony. Payton said they are working Peat at RT and i expect him to be the day one starter there. Strief would be there to back up both OT positions and come in on the tackle eligible plays.

Remember, Payton said prior to the draft that he did not want "project" players early. He wanted plug and play.

I'm even more excited to see him on the field now

Bet he could really drop the hammer with those triceps...Mountain of a Man...

If it's really going to be a straight up competition, I like Peat to be the starting left tackle...

Armstead's skill set, especially with Spiller in the fold now, that'd be an amazing bubble screen to the right...

I'd let old faithful and Lelito compete for the left guard position...

That'd be a pretty formidable line...

I love Striefs attitude and I agree. May the best man win the spot.

I'm not that extremely skeptical of Peat at all. I have faith in the long run he was a solid pick and can have a shot at being a willie roaf type of player. still would have gone WR lol

Striefs whats not to like. blue collar, lunch pail toting, team player, that has excellent value for this team.

can not think of a better setup for Peat to learn and work on his finer points of his game.

Starter right out of the gate? that still is to be seen
