Too many times last year, players were asked to execute multiple roles in an attempt to “confuse” the opposing offense, but instead did the opposite and confused the Saints defense.

Fundamentals like tackling became a lost art which Allen has seen to correct with even being spotted manning a tackling pad himself for instruction with the defensive back group on Thursday’s OTA’s.

While Ryan has the ideas that will hopefully get the Saints defense back on track, Allen will be there to sift through the ones that are doable and ones that most likely won’t be feasible.

The dynamic of having Ryan and Allen both essentially splitting defensive coordinator duties may seem a bit like overkill, but in the end they could prove to be just the right combination the defense needs in 2015……
