Didn't we hear Rob saying the same thing coming out of dallas? Who is it that's really having the problem learning about his complicated schemes?

Teams throwing at Corey white or Patrick Robinson when they needed an easy first down.

Maybe we missed Roman Harper and Malcolm Jenkins impact more than we anticipated.

At the end of it, I don't think scheme hurt us, you never hear Seattle or San Fran say " the scheme is too hard"

In my opinion it was dumb guys playing dumb football, hopefully we've eradicated that by getting rid of a couple players and adding through the draft.

The turn over in veterans killed them.

Lack of talent... just my opinion... Addition of Browner drafting solid MLB and adding depth at DL... I see a change for the better this season....

yes

veterans loss did not help but this defense started the slide in 2013 not in 2014.

rob has not changed his defense despite teams having it figured out in the later half of 2013

main knocks on Rob before we signed him were

complicated schemes
inability to adjust on the fly
inability to win close games

not saying he is dumb but he might just be too smart for his own good and to pig head to see it.

Enter Dennis as the voice of reason or the key coach needed to get this complicated scheme put into place. i am leaning towards voice of reasonmyself

The defense did not start to slide at the end of 2013. We lost a lot of guys at the end of the season, eg vacarro, haralson. One of the reasons we lost the Carolina games was because we lost Vacarro and they put Harper in coverage. Bad idea. As for the scheme it was different in 2014 than it was in 2013. Cameron Jordon said in 2013 they used a bare-bones playbook Everything was simplified. Then in 2014 Rob came with all these complicated schemes which caused the players to think first instead of react. Jordan said by the first week they were 20 plays in. Now you might be right when you say "he might just be too smart for his own good and to pig headed to see it." As for his adjustments I think he adjusts just fine, but their is only so much adjusting you can do when the players whiff on so many tackles. You can't blame everything bad that happened to the defense all on Rob. A lot of it is on the players. Poor tackling and drinking the kool-aide. So please, don't tell me the defense started to slide in 2013 because that is baloney. If anything it was the Saints defense that figured out other defenses in 2013. It didn't help that we lost some key players toward the end of the season. And it also didn't help in 2014 the the players tackled so poorly and they drank the kool-aide. 2013 defense and the 2014 defense have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Yes we did, from Rob Ryan's own mouth.

He said looking back it was too complicated, and with half his defensive stars getting hurt it was a disaster.

He's a mad scientist. I think Dennis Allen will help streamline the plays and packages.

Not too simple, but eliminate the Chinese Calculus portion of the process.

My head hurts trying to keep up with the reasons, excuses and promises for this teams poor defense.
You have to remember, they're working with college students here. Not the sharpest tools in the shed.

2013 was dominated by the first front 4 that could generate pressure

2013 late season slide
After the Seattle and Carolina home game the d got soft.
The pass rush was a hair late
The run d was giving up too much on 1st and 2nd down.
Some games they contained till key end of game drives

In the playoffs we had the second best d
It kept us in the Seattle game
