The line has gone dead, and a series of loud beeps can be heard across the room.
There is no question it’s time to hang up on the hype. There needs to be some type of proof that last year was a fluke for the New Orleans Saints’ group of safeties. The situation is too volatile. But it’s also important to remember that hype arrived because of a wide-spread belief that Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro could emerge as one of the better safety duos in the NFL. They had the pedigree and talent that made it easy to believe. Vaccaro needs to stop thinking so much and just play
He was relentless in his rookie season and he barely missed any tackles He looked timid last season like he was waiting for the ball carrier to get to him. |

True Dat. I think we are all waiting with guarded expectations for a much better showing this year.

Vaccaro played a new position last season, no?
That + hamstring / quad tear + poor defensive play in general may explain his performance better than anything. |

It's almost embarrassing in hindsight that last offseason some considered Byrd/Vaccaro the best safety tandem in the league.

I hope Dennis can coach Kenny up because to date he is still not a true safety by any stretch of the imagination. If his play continues he will hinder Byrd not help him.

Byrd looks great when he's in. IF he can stay health, he's a premier ballhawk and a tough hitter. KV will have to earn a starting position. We've got a couple safeties that I like better than KV.

Vaccarro is one of the most talented players on the team and really one of the most talented strong safeties in the league. Not many guys in the league, can move like he can, hit like can, and have the coverage abilities he possesses. I get tired of people talking about him like he's just some guy. Dude is a monster athletically. He had a terrible year by his standards last year and it probably had a lot to do with injuries, but also mental preparation for the season and each game. It happens for young guys. If he puts the work in, to ensure he's healthy and he's put the work in in the film room he can be an all-pro safety. Especially if the guys we have around him start clicking. I don't mean to hype him up, I just hate the negatively and pessimism some of have towards him like he didn't play on an atrocity of a defense last year.
