Jalen Saunders says each WR brings 'a little flavor' to the mix
The New York Jets drafted wide receiver Jalen Saunders in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft only to release the rookie in late September.
After bouncing around from practice squad to practice squad, the New Orleans Saints added Saunders once their first-round pick, Brandin Cooks, was placed on injured reserve. Saunders played in six games for New Orleans where he had a chance to prove himself on special teams. He returned six punts for 99 yards, including a 32-yarder against the Carolina Panthers in Week 13. He also returned three kicks for 139 yards, good for a 46.3 yard average, and a 99-yarder Dec. 21 against Atlanta. Now the former Oklahoma Sooners star is in the mix to earn a spot in the Saints' young wide receiving corps. Saunders spoke with NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune about building off of last season's success and what he can do on offense in 2015. All little common sense goes a long way. |

Re: Jalen Saunders says each WR brings 'a little flavor' to the mix
He was the sole bright light at the end of last season. I know that Payton has been working Spiller, Cooks and the seventh round RB at returner. So there is some stiff competition this year and it should produce better results on special teams.
Personally, I hope we don't jeopardize Cooks or Spiller on special teams. I'm glad that Saunders is a WR and the 7th rounder is a RB. I feel somewhat loyal to Saunders but that little RB has a better chance of making the team based on roster positions. |

Re: Jalen Saunders says each WR brings 'a little flavor' to the mix
Saunders could be the odd man out. He is mainly a good return specialists. Very valuable to have before the rule change but now, it's more of a luxury.
I hope he makes it but he is going to have to beat out a couple of people. I do think he is capable though. If he makes a strong play or two in PS also, hard to let him go at that point. |
