Willie Robinson

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; By now I'm sure everyone knows who Willy Robinson is. I'm kind of perplexed about his job, though. Our defense has been horrible for the last few years and finished dead last this year. I know of no other team ...

By now I'm sure everyone knows who Willy Robinson is.

I'm kind of perplexed about his job, though.

Our defense has been horrible for the last few years and finished dead last this year.

I know of no other team thatwould have kept Rick Venturi. Heck, on principle alone, Venturi should have been fired.

Now Haslett has created a "new" coaching position on the team. I forget the name he created for it. But, Haslett says Willie is going to assist Venturi and be involved in every game plan...

Look, if Venturi needs so much help, then why keep him?

Why don't we do the same thing for our offense? That doesn't make much sense does it.

The only "logical" conclusion that I can come to is this:

1. Venturi is really no longer the coordinator and Haslett is just saving Venturi from public humiliation.

2. Venturi is still the DC and Haslett just wants to pasify the fans by making them think he's made a change.

Thoughts?

Venturi is Banson\'s Baby. Haslet was forced to promote him to DC and cannot fire him now. Haslet officially has the power to fire him, but he\'s in no position to fire BB because he\'s deserving of being fired himself. Thus, Haslet must mantain Venturi on the staff, but recognizing he needs help brought in someone to be the actual coordinator.

I agree. I have to wonder how much Haslett\'s hands are tied. I cannot think of a single scenario in which any other team would have kept Venturi after the season the Saints had - especially since defense has been the offseason focus for 3 years now. Hopefully, whoever was calling the plays at the end of the year keeps calling \'em.

I\'d go with option #1

ventrui has been terrible and was not running the d by end of the year. to me that is obvious. for some reason the guy is allowed to stay regardless of how terrible his defensive numbers have been. hopefully he is being replaced by the new guy and they just arent saying that. i would like that
