this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; has a draft value chart, which is the chart NFL teams use when trading picks. According to the chart, we could trade our 16th and 40th for the 7th pick.......DJ BABYYYYYYYYY...

That is a bad idea. There is a LOT of depth on defense in this year\'s draft so we need 40 as much as we need 16. We can get two quality players or one potentially great player. We had our chance to get DJ before we decided to win four in a row and still not make the playoffs.

I was in opposition of trading both our 1st round picks a couple of years ago - but they did it anyway - and I\'m against this on the same principles. We\'re taking a shot on every player. There are no guaranteed successes. I\'d rather have a 1st round player and a second than one 1st round pick a little higher and no second. The odds, I believe, are more in my favor for getting at least one good player out of this draft.

in some cases it might work for a premier-elite player or one that fits a need perfectly. i also do not think this is the draft for that and i think dj is the best and surest thing in this draft. the needs are too widespread here- t and anything but de on defense. this class isnt one with a strong upper echelon of big impact players either but it does have strong depth particularly in areas of need. i think it is a year that getting low 1st rounders and 2nd rounders for brooks and howard would payoff more than usual years. (not to mention cap room freed up)
a chart like that here at nfl.com too- http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/6330687 |

The times that we have waited instead of trading up we got Deuce,Darren Howard,Donte Stallworth,Charles Grant, & Will Smith the times we traded up we got Ricky Williams & Johnathan Sullivan so I beleive we wait and see who falls in our lap at #16!

Too much depth in this draft.. only reason we would trade is if you can get an extra pick... at least a 3rd rounder...
