this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don\'t mind top-5 money for Deuce, just put a workout/weight clause in it. If he works out, and comes into camp fit and trim (220 to 230), I think he can flirt with 2000 yards. Of course that depends ...

I agree with that Danno, but Sullivan has a weight clause, Haslett swore in the offseason they would enforce it and they didn\'t. Maybe since Deuce is a star they will be more forceful, but then that seems hypocritical and detrimental to the team.

The players union would pinch a cowloaf if Haz tried to fine Sully just for being lazy. Although I\'d love to see both happen |

I don\'t recall him ever making it down to 315. Not by the time they had set for fines. If he did during the season I would be shocked. My point was though, they never enforced it so they can\'t very well do it to Deuce. Eventhough I agree with you and would like them to.

well i cant see trading deuce. i think we should keep him because he will get the money even if he isnt here. i dont know who we have to replace him. until we have someone that can we have to pay the man. i dont think a weight clause would hurt though.

Looks like Deuce wants top-5 money..
i think some people are getting too used to having a 1000+ yard back every year now... when have the saints ever had a consistant 1000 yard back in the last ten years? now that he gives you 1000 (even on a hurt year) people want to say he is not worth the money he wants? i think haveing 1000+ yards a year is a big thing, nothing to spit at... there are plenty teams out there who would love to have a back they knew would produce every year... he would have had more if they would have had karney blocking for him in teh i formation instead of that 2 TE **** they had the first few games... and the only reason that stopped somewhat is because Deuce went to hasslett and demanded that he have a FB....it was a terrible scheme they ran this year and he was hurt but still put up great yardage....
dont get numb to the fact he gets that kind of yardage every year and expect more..... |

Also take into consideration that due to the horrendous Saints defense, Deuce wasn\'t able to touch the ball. The ball was in the air more than it was on the ground. Had the defense pulled their heads out of their butts a bit sooner, Deuce could\'ve been over 1200 yards.....easily.

When he\'s not injured, he is a top 5 back without a doubt. Look at the numbers he put up, he carries this team on his back. He\'s also a fan favorite and puts people in the seats. He definately deserves his money. Look at the rookie contract he signed with us. We got WAY more than our money\'s worth. Time to reimburse. Unless we pull some kind of crazy draft and select a top back, but why risk it when we have the sure thing...
Joe Horn wants an extension and more money. Doesn\'t it seem to you that he gets it re-done like every freaking year? |
