Drew Brees - 2015 MVP
Ok, so Drew will probably not win league MVP (Manning/Brady bias), but here's why I think he will have a monster year and should.
1) Doubters. Media and talking heads galore have written his NFL eulogy. Arm gone, window closed, no weapons, list his edge, and all the cliches. What I've learned about the guy is that he's driven. And he will feed off the doubters and work even harder. 2) O line. It has to be better and that makes Brees better. When rushed, he's mortal. When protected, he's a defense shredding machine. Unger >> injured Goodwin and Lelito I think will be better than Grubbs. Plus the line improvements are in the middle where Brees always needed a clean pocket. Bus this could me more touches in the running game. 3) No Jimmy. Don't get me wrong - he will be missed at times and he will make the Seahawks better, but Brees seemed to fix on him on crucial downs. EVERYONE knew where he was going with the ball. I have to think we spread the ball around more this year and will be much less predictable. 4) Garrett Grayson. Nobody thinks double G takes Drew's place this year or next. And nobody think the Saints used a 3rd rounder for nothing. Be it as an eventual replacement for #9 or someone to fill in during an injury, Drew knows his spot is no longer a given - especially with his high cap number. 5) Defense. Can it be any worse??? Going out on s limb here, but something makes me think we have enough playmakers and hungry youngsters that we may start seeing turnovers this year. Brees and company are lethal when playing on a short field. 6) It's an odd numbered year. This team - excluding 2006 and 2007 seasons, seems to play better in odd years. WELCOME 2015! |

Re: Drew Brees - 2015 MVP
Look, I'll take a deep playoff run, MVP or not.
If the o-line is improved and Drew's flat-foot time in the pocket increases substantially above the around 3 seconds he's had the past two seasons, he'll be an MVP candidate. Heck, we were miserable in 2012 and Drew was still mentioned for MVP. He's a "pocket passer", take away his pocket and int's and errors will ensue. |
