New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis was prepared for the onslaught of questions he knew would come when he addressed the media on Wednesday at The Greenbrier.

And come they did, over and over, for 20 minutes as Loomis, speaking to the media for the first time since the NFL draft, attempted to explain his thought process between Junior Galette's expensive four-year, $41.5 million contract extension last September and his untimely release on Monday.

The first press conference of training camp is usually centered around the season ahead and where the team will go moving forward.

But first, they had to go back.

Was Loomis disappointed at how the Galette saga played out?

"I'd say we were very disappointed that it transpired," Loomis said. "But it is what it is and we can't turn the clock back. We have to make decisions going forward."

Why did he make the decision?

"It was a variety of things ... it wasn't any one thing," Loomis said. "And ultimately we're trying to make the decision as to 'Hey what's the best decision for our team going forward? What gives us the best chance to be successful? And that was a decision we made."

Why wait until training camp to cut him?

"First of all, he was injured," Loomis said. "And so we wanted to do the best thing we could in terms of getting his rehab to the point where he could pass a physical and be ready to go, which ultimately he was," Loomis said. "And then the second thing is there's an ongoing investigation by the league, and we were hoping that process would finish before we started training camp. And obviously we didn't."

What Payton failed to say it that Loomis is an idiot for signing him to that contract and Byrd is right around that corner.
It nearly killed Benson.

Loomis should have watched his arse a little closer and Payton should have had a better feel for the locker room and known about the belt incident.

Hey, apparently that video had been on YouTube since March of 2013 and NOTHING was said by NOBODY till the past few months...

So it seems disingenuous to hold the Ball Coach responsible...

Now, the General Manager, Loomis should be vetting players out both in the clubhouse, and in the public as ambassadors of the game before locking the team into those kind of numbers...
