Kevin Williams is quietly sharing his wisdom on the field

You're never too old to learn...at least that's Kevin Williams' theory.

The New Orleans Saints defensive lineman is days away from turning 35, a 13-year veteran and a six-time Pro Bowler. Yet he still feels like he's got something to prove.

"Don't ever get comfortable with what you've done in the past," Williams said his coaches have told him time and time again.

He added: "Coach Bill Johnson says there's no finish line on getting better. So that's kind of stuck with me since I've been here and I think it's a great saying. You never can stop improving."

Williams wasn't re-signed by the Seahawks after spending a season there in 2014. That was preceded by 11 seasons in Minnesota. Now, this could be his last and final shot for a Super Bowl ring.

"On the field I'm trying to help lead the young guys because everyone is here for the ultimate goal, and that's to win games."

The quest for a ring isn't any different from the goal of every other player on the team. But Williams has a few more years of experience to bring with it, and his teammates are taking advantage.

"Am I picking his brain?," asked fellow defensive lineman Akiem Hicks. "Oh definitely."

This is one of the best thing about signing Kevin. He has always been a team player doing all the small things to win. This might go down as the smartest off season move by this club.

A Williams at 60% of his prime is still better than most starters in the NFL. He was a cap phase out in Minnesota so there is some tread left on those tires. He will teach these kids to get there hands up when pass rushing.

great stability move up front.
