Byrd's best year was his rookie season in '09 with a ton of INT's, but he ended that season on IR, but got nominated for the pro-bowl. He had solid years in '10-11, but he was hurt in 2012 and 2013 with limited play.

With his performance dropping off or non-existent for (now) 3 straight seasons tells me he has this one last chance to shine bright or we just wasted a bunch of money. A HUGE deal for a player who has barely seen the field. Really think we should have signed a d-lineman or o-linemen - for freaking 6-year $56 million contract. That's unreal for a player that hasn't produced the past couple of seasons.

I'm a little concerned.

Like always, I love to be wrong when it is beneficial for us. This just has a bad feel, a very bad feel. I think he will be pup until after week 6, which means that is at least 14 games in 2 seasons, yikes... and at some point he has to work into a position that requires the people to have a feel for each other. I am worried. I hope I am worried for no reason, but I have seen this story before.... and what do you want SP to say??

And contrary to popular belief I have had a chance to see him, he's in street clothes on the sideline daily

And he hasn't made the big money yet. If he crashes and burns he probably won't see very much of that money. His last 4 years are 32 million just in base salary. He'll restructure or he'll never see that money.

I hope he gets out there bro, I really do. I want this dude to shine for us. Fingers crossed, just pissed he's on the sideline

Wish and hope for the best for Byrd as a Saint; contract was too risky and there were as good options available...

Then we already had two good safeties to build...

I just wish him good luck and I hope he gets on that field as soon as he is able.

It would be amazing to see him 100% fit in the regular season. Lets all hope that this proves to be the case.

One things for sure SP won't play him until he knows he's completely fit to do so!

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

Neither are even in the same hemisphere as Jairus Byrd.

We needed a center field safety, and he was probably top 3 in the NFL. Neither Bush nor Vaccaro fit the bill (pardon the pun).

Maybe. But they are on the field...

I thought Raphael Bush really showed something in the playoff loss to the Seahawks...

Vaccaro got caught up in his own press last season; he's just got to show it on the field...

I like Warren, he's the closest thing to Byrd we got. I kind of like being in that position(1) Byrd (2) Warren, both natural center fielders. I also like Sunseri at SS, Lewis and Browner at cb. I'm a little worried about the who the slot guy is?
