SP seemed pissed

Anyone else get the feeling that the scrimmage did not go well and he is pissed? I did, and I get the feeling that Rob is gonna be out of a job

Re: SP seemed pissed

From reports there were atleast 4 instances where the defense had either too many or not enough players on the field.

Anybody that feels Dennis Allen was brought in just in case Rob screws up may just be right, even though I think he gets this year.

Yeah, I took the same from his press conf. He may get the whole year, but part of me feels he may not and D.A. is here for a smooth mid-years trans. I mean we had those same issues last season too... RR has got to get these dudes in tune with what needs to be going on..

Might be too many cooks in the kitchen as well.

I wouldn't put too much into a single scrim... let's at least wait until the first pre-season game before we start firing people.

Definitely a fair point, he deserves the chance to redeem himself but if the defense can't even line themselves up by game 5, I would not be at all surprised to see Rob gone, which in my opinion is a shame because he seems like a real players coach and a good guy.

+1. I would much rather see these mistakes now in scrimmage rather than on Sunday's.

Re: SP seemed pissed

I remember last year they had a really scrappy, sloppy, bad practice up there in the rain in Virginia, that was so obvious that the beat writers couldn't help but mention it. And they wound up going 7-9 on the year. I remember another year 2012, all during preseason and into the first game of the year, the team were getting called for sloppy penalties like too many men on the field on defense, guys jogging off to the sidelines, illegal formation, not enough down linemen on the line, etc. And that carried over into the year.

I'm not encouraged by what I'm hearing this year. Payton used to be so good at preventing this type of thing -- what the heck happened to him?

How you practice is how you play -- this is true in playing music, it's true in sports, it's true in flying an airplane, it's even true in being a doctor or surgeon.

Yep, large part no doubt. This is a mental problem and I don't care for it...because I am telling you that is sloppy football and there is no time for it. It wouldn't be as bad, but we had these same exact issues last season...that's what I don't like.

Granted, plenty of time to get it fixed, and better now than during the season, but nonetheless it is concerning consider similar issues during last season

Yea. Honestly I have not heard to much to get excited about this season so far except for a few individual performances. Injuries are starting to pile up too. Nobody seems high on Andrus Pete at all. I hear UDFA players are doing better. An offensive tackle taken as early as he was should at least be decent at a few different spots on the line. Payton seemed frustrated just like he did last year. It could be that they are just tempering their enthusiasm because of all the hype in preseason last year.

I would rather him be pissed now than surprised we suck later.

Last year everyone was ranting and raving about how good we looked, the fact that we are seeing the opposite this year is fine by me. It's not about how you start, it's about how you finish.

No; but twitter was alive with reports of the sloppiness. Even Brees commented about it

It's still quite early and remember SP did state that Peat would be somewhat behind in conditioning and playbook (missed some mini camp due to graduation).

Side note : not to throw stones at the Saints brain trust but up around these parts, coaches have been beaming with enthusiasm on La'el Collins thus far .

I hate the Cowboys :pissed:.

Hahaha, I am not on this bandwagon, only on the 10 and 12 players defense issues is worrisome. Lol, I have heard a lot of pretty encouraging things too

Good news: The Defensive problems were mostly mental. Too few players on the field...
The Bad News: Last years defense had a lot of mental mistakes too.

Payton said he noticed, and said he'll definitely get that fixed.

Yes, it appears he wasn't pleased at all.

I hate to say this and I might get flamed, but I heard part of the press conference, and the way SP sounds is exactly the way other saints coaches have sounded towards the end of their tenure: haslett, mora and ditka. I dont remember Payton acting like that in his first several years w us.

Biggest problem with a "Players Coach" always seems like the players are less disciplined, but that's just my opinion

Which BTW is all I have ever heard of Haslett as a coach, players coach....

Tell ya what, if this **** continues into the season then I have had enough of Rob

Honestly, he sounded to me like a guy that is sick and tired of his defensive coordinators ****. One of the press even tried to say it was the players and SP stopped him and said no, no, that's on everyone, coaches, etc. Then he told the guy not to get him started, I am telling you I think he's had enough of Rob, just being honest. I may be way wrong, but I think he is sick of Rob and this ****

I sensed the exact same vibe in his presser spkb25.

I would not be shocked if Rob Ryan was fired even before the season started and Dennis Allen took over.

3 defensive coordinators in 4 years is pathetic.
I've got a sneaking feeling we'll be on number 4 very soon.

If we are not careful we'll completely P*** away Brees' final years in mediocrity.

That's because they have given up on the Saints.
They aren't showing any signs of life in training camp or last year. From what I have been reading, no one thinks the Saints will win anymore games this year than they did last year.

You are correct on all points, but I will add 2 DC's gone and 1 hanging on by a thread but Johnson,Vitt, McNothing are all still here, now Allen is back, why haven't they hit the road , our D under them have NEVER really been that good wheather the rankings showed it or not. I've never seen a scary D out of this group. Allen is the only exclusion with the secondary. I'm not so sure he is a good DC, Denver was pretty stacked when he took that job.

Dennis Allen is just as responsible as Ryan for that.

burningmetal 08-07-2015 11:12 PM

Re: SP seemed pissed

Dennis Allen was a train wreck of a head coach in Oakland, and while some might say that you can't judge him on that considering how bad that organization is, the fact is that he did not have a good defense when he was in Denver, either. When the guy left us everyone was sad. But what has he proven since then? Why do people feel like he's the DC in waiting? If those who believe this are right, then we'd be making a lateral move, at best.

I hope the defense plays great when the season starts and we don't have to talk about this again, but if they struggle and Rob does get fired, I sure hope they have a better plan than Dennis Allen. Just let him Coach the DB's.

I can't say you're right and I can't say you're wrong because I am not sure. He certainly plays a part. These problems existed last year. I remember that in games...that was the reason behind the simplified defense.

Re: SP seemed pissed

Rob is responsible for the organization of play calling, player substations and/or the lack of organization on the side line. The side line is his office.

he had the issue last year and its ugly head is showing up again this year. his office is a train wreck with some control issues. he needs to get this solved. Or hello 8-8 if we get lucky

excuses only go so far and this one is all his.

on the bright side there will be about half the amount of chickens running a muck in the hen house when the season begins. then we just need a rooster to keep them in line. Is Rob that roster? Or is Rob more of a fox in the hen house?

ask me at the end of 2015 season.

vtiger72 08-08-2015 11:20 AM

Re: SP seemed pissed

I've said it before, but I'm not a fan of Ryan. The biggest problem with his exotic defenses is that often they confuse his own players as much as they are designed to confuse offenses.

This is especially problematic if injuries occur in the season. Chances are, these are just early issues with the guys picking up Ryan's scheme. However if the players aren't particularly smart or if there's injuries, it could get ugly.

My other concern is I read when Ryan went to Dallas, it was important for him to bring Eberflus with him as Eberflus was the one who taught the schemes to the players as Ryan designed them. Eberflus stayed in Dallas, and I wonder if that might cause Ryan issues here.

Thursday night will be a good test against the Ravens. I will be there probably one of a few black shirts in the crowd. Usually becomes hard to see the game though when they start chucking the beer at us.
