It's quite possible he might make the roster if the saints want to carry 5 safeties

Byrd at 75% healthy is better than every other safety we have on the roster.

I have already discussed how he was the best defensive player on the team in the first 4 games last year.

Right now it doesn't look like a good signing, but ill wait to make that judgement call til after this season. Point being don't right the guy off yet, it's close but he could have an all-pro year.

Warren and Sunseri starting with Vaccaro playing the slot/nickle/TE role as he did as a rookie.

Sunseri sucks. He is Jason David disguised as a safety. He has blown enough coverages to last the season in 2 preseason games. I pray he is cut and picked up by the dirty turds.

Re: Pierre Warren 1st team

I agree with B&G. Byrd was our best defender in the very limited action we saw him. I am not writing him off yet and as mentioned, we have zero ability to cut him and take the hit anyways so it's not worth discussing. I am not impressed with the way our front office has dealt with large contracts like Byrd, Gallette and Graham though. They were all bad deals and should not have been done. I'm not even a fan of the deals with re-did with Jordan and Evans. Loomis has had a bad two years after earning alot of my respect with his front office moves prior.

With the way we seem to be constantly decimated by injuries I am not for trading any depth. There is little likelihood we see a healthy Byrd and Vaccaro for 16 games. We need the depth that Bush, Warren and Sunseri provide and I also really like what Phillips has done this offseason.

I don't agree with the knock on Sunseri. He's a top notch special teamer and while not great he is better than alot of teams 3 or 4 safety. I like our secondary depth just not our luck with injuries.

Byrd is definetely a legit ball hawk and he Flys around and is always around the ball. Warren has good ball skills too though. I disagree totally with the cut Sinseri post. He got beat a couple times but no more than Vaccarro And Sinseri hits like a truck. The combine says he's our fastest safety.

I look at Warren as a win, win type of player. If Byrd is healthy he can sit behind him and pick up all Byrd brings (which is alot) to the game, if Byrd is not healthy we have a true FS to step right in and play at a good level. If he plays at a high level then Byrd(who I love also) will have to beat him out. I agree that Bush is no FS and really never has been or will be but has value as trade bait or a in box SS.

Saints spending one-fifth of their cap space on players not on the team.

In New Orleans, 20 percent of the cap is dead money, according to Spotrac. Among the players who count huge amounts against the Saints’ salary cap even though they’re no longer on the team are tight end Jimmy Graham ($9 million), guard Ben Grubbs ($6 million), linebacker Junior Galette ($5.45 million) and linebacker Curtis Lofton $5 million).

they can't afford to release Bush for Warren, plus Akiem Hicks contract is just around the corner

Akiem Hicks hasn't done a damn thing yet to warrant a big new contract and unless he absolutely lights it up this year I don't care if we let him walk.
