Kennan Lewis scheduled for sports hernia surgery
 

Will likely be out quite a while if true.

Two or three posters (on another site) close to the situation are claiming its true.

So far just a RUMOR, but a very worrisome RUMOR.

6-12 weeks is normal recovery for this injury. He'll be back mid season if true.

That would explain why they picked up that FA from Miami. Looks like Breaux, Dixon, Swann and Wilson will see a lot of playing time in the last game. I will say this, even if he is out I have a lot more confidence in the CB's this year than last.

Don't wanna be a downer, but with so many young guys along the front 7 I was really hoping our DB's would provide an extra second or two of coverage while our pass rushers developed.

Keenan was desperately needed to help do that.

Lewis was our 2nd most important piece of our defense behind Jordan.

If true, this really sucks.

Yep. Younger guys are going to need tutelage and guidance. I think a lot of what happened to KV last year had a lot to do with the fact he was young with no Veterans like Harper he could look to for leadership.

I am also suspect of the DBS strength and conditioning. For the last 3-4 years we have been decimated by injury at that position. It's just odd with such a huge percentage of injury coming from that position group.

How much "dead $" is sitting on the bench from the secondary???

I suspect we won't see Browner, Byrd and Lewis for 6 weeks.


The PUP secondary - that's our new name.


Or maybe the "don't rush PUP" defense, since we have no pass rush and 3/4s of what we expected in the secondary will be riding the pine...

I'm sorry, but this is a big one. Given the fact that the defensive line can't get to the quarterback, we're screwed. We needed two solid starting corners.

My hopes for this season just went down the pipes.

Hate to hear this. Now our secondary will have to rely on a pass rush from the front 7. It never a dull moment with our D!!

Still working to confirm the details on NFL Network report that Saints CB Keenan Lewis will miss 4-6 weeks after having hip surgery. A Saints source called the report inaccurate but didn't offer specifics. Losing Lewis for a lengthy stretch would be a severe blow for the Saints. He's a true No. 1 CB and arguably their defensive MVP over the past two years. Saints will count on veteran Brandon Browner getting healthy and CFL transplant Delvin Breaux playing huge role.

No doubt and with the uncertainty of Browner, we could see a lot of Swann and/or SJB vs Cards. Compile that with Stephone, Kikaha with no NFL starts ... you talk about throwing guys to the wolves.

The Saints should just let everyone play out their contract and leave and never give them a raise. It just doesn't work out.

Honestly,our cornerback situation looks a lot better than the past couple of years. If this would have happened with Corey White and P rob as our #2 and #3, I would be s**ting a brick over this. I guess we'll have to wait and see. We might be pleasantly surprised.

Only hope we have for this season is the o-line is so improved that Brees has all the time he wants in the backfield. Fortunately Unger and some new blood along with others stepping up may just do it.

If you're an opponent scoping the Saints out, you have to think to yourself that running up the middle 2 downs and 1 pass to either corner will get you down the field fast - potentially 21 to 28 points guaranteed per game. So Saints running game needs to be up to specs to run some clock.

Not a great way to start a season at all.

This may not be a bad situation, the toilet could be half flush meaning if he can get back mid season, someone else hones their skills and we are on target for the playoffs (chalk up 2 Bucs W's). It could flush out rather nicely.

Worst case, even after the bye, 3 Division games. If we don't make a mess of things potential to mop it up with him back and roll in the PO with more in the tool box.

While this may suck, look who we have the first three games. One bad offensive line, one overbalanced team, and one team without both its top two wideouts.

I am not worried yet. It can't be worse than last year if Brees is able to have time to throw.

Well defenses tend to play poorly on three days rest against good offenses anyways. I say we have an advantage against Atlanta because their defense will not stop us and their offense took a hit. I mean if we end up losing that game I will be so frustrated that I may have to stop watching the NFL to get my mind off of it.
