The Saints and the rest of the league's teams have to chop their rosters from 75 players to 53 by Saturday afternoon. Granted, new faces might pop up once cuts around the league take place, but here's my final roster projection for the Saints before cut-down day. See the entire roster projection here |

Re: New Orleans Saints' final 53-man roster projection: Luke McCown in as Drew Brees' backup, Ryan Griffin out
Honestly, as critical as everyone has been of McCown lately, I haven't seen anything to suggest that either Griffin or Grayson are ahead of him. Luke definitely isn't an inspiring QB but, for now, I don't see any choice but to keep him.
Griffin has moments, but having never played in a real game at this level you can't really trust him yet. Grayson looks awful. I didn't expect much from him this early, and never was particularly excited about drafting him, but I thought I would have at least seen a glimpse of something positive by now... I haven't. If Drew gets hurt, we're screwed and already know that. But McCown is gonna stay here until these young guys figure something out. Despite the fact that Griffin is ahead of Grayson right now, I'm guessing that they won't risk putting the third round pick on the practice squad. Assuming Griffin does end up on the PS, I don't think he goes unclaimed this time around, which makes Grayson's struggles even more of a problem for us. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Could agree more. Didn't expect much from Grayson, and would have rather used that pick on defense. However we are stuck with him for now. Saying that I will support him, but just can't see him being our lead man in a few years.

We drafted SIX defensive players last year. That's got to be a record. For Payton, at least.

I hate to say it, but Griffin is looking more and more like a green young kid from Tulane who was brought in as a favor to a former assistant coach and his program. Seems like he was cheap, easy, available, and all it took was a phone call from Curtis to scout him -- so suddenly there he is, on the roster.

If Grayson wasn't a third rounder, he would be unemployed. No touch and lacking accuracy. If Brees goes down, the need to sign Tebow and run the option with Ingram, Robinson, and Spiller.

I hope they keep Griffin. I think the guy could be a decent starter somewhere. If they need a veteran QB to be a second set of eyes hire him as a coach.
