Thoughts on what needs to be done..
Free agency will begin very soon and hopefully Haslett and co. will sign someone other than the usual "projects" he usually brings to the Big Easy.
Simply stated ... I think we have too many weak areas to address in the draft. The biggest area of need, IMO, is left tackle. If we can address that position, I think we'll be fine on the offensive line. Granted, Riley needs to be replaced, but a right tackle can be found much easier than a LT and maybe someone on our current roster can fill this position. The next area of concern, to me, is the DT position. Sullivan is a "wild card" and who knows what to expect from him. Anything would be a bonus. I'm willing to see if Brian Young can hold up against the run. But, only if we get him some help at the other DT position. We need someone there who can force offenses to double team him and allow Brian Young to play effectively. If we can do that, we might be okay at MLB. Courtney Watson has the tools and hopefully with a year of experience under his belt he can get the job done. But, if there's a proven MLB out there, it would be wise to bring him in and maybe slide Watson to OLB. I feel pretty good about Bockwoldt. He played well in his 1st year and I suspect he'll be even better this year. If our front 7 can get the job done, I don't think we're in bad shape with the back 4. It could be better but, unlike past years, it doesn't appear to need a major overhaul. Bellamy is the only player of real concern to me. He's fine in run support but I feel he is a liability in against the pass. I don't see receiver as an area of need. Devery Henderson never saw the field and I'm really looking foward to seeing this kid. I'd really like to see us get a TE who could stretch the field and someone who is a big target for the QB. We'll see how much this team wants to win once free-agency is over. I don't want to sit here this year and watch all the good players sign with other teams. Haslett and co. needs to really be agressive this year... |

I would love to do this:
trade howard for picks. in FA target a DT, an OT, and a pretty good veteran linebacker then in the draft: get channing crowder and burnett for linebackers (maybe even morrison who might drop) then grab a couple of safeties/DB then work on depth: moats for backup RB/KR, ronald feilds for DT, etc...just get bodies..and maybe pickup another couple of wideouts to develop as well. |
