I'm shocked that he even blasted the pass rush. |
Re: Sean Payton: Pass rush “wasn’t good enough” last week
We were accruing 3-4 players Sean, for pete sake, finishing installing the front!!!
Put the weight back on Hicks and Jenkins and just let those guys with Williams occupy five blockers - now you have the advantage and can randomly zone rush two linebackers from any of the four spots!!! Geezus! We don't have defensive ends that run like deer so WTF are we putting in a 4-3 system!!! As brilliant as Payton is on offense, I really question his grasp on defense... And the two-headed monster he's created has the potential to really get ugly this season!!! |

I just can't find a silver lining with J Jenkins. His technique is very poor & often times he can't seem to get low enough (leverage). If you really focus in on his play, he appeared to be blown off the ball consistently vs the Redbirds - not good. Even when he was 20+ lbs heavier last season it was the same result. This is what year 3? Don't think he is the answer at the aforementioned position. He plays as soft as cotton. This position has to be addressed and made a priority in next years draft. Edit: Jeff Ireland will get it right. |
Re: Sean Payton: Pass rush “wasn’t good enough” last week
NT- Sean Payton- NT. I also would get rid of Johnson and my good ole' buddy Vitt.

And your offense didn't score in the red zone.

Jenkins had a fine rookie season, often out-playing the above average NT Brodrick Bunkley (who was injured that season)... Then Jenkins tore a pectoral muscle going into his sophmore (second season); a NT basically blocks, stands up, occupies two blockers with the primary muscle group being used...the pectoral muscles... Then the team puts him on a regimen and has him lose weight to play some kinda hybrid 3-tech?!? Where's the continuity in philosophy for the players to follow?!? You're that close to finally installing a 3-4 that you've publicly disclosed and then you bring in Dennis Allen (who should be there to fix, develop the secondary) and instead reinstall a 4-3 because you've slightly overpaid a 3-4 defensive end and want to justify his salary?!? Combined with two different philosophical co-defensive coordinators - that's just f**king awful... Payton needs to get his head out of his arse and make up his mind to get rid of Ryan or commit and allow him to install the 3-4... You've got the beginnings of a talented front with NT John Jenkins (back at previous weight), DE Akiem Hicks (also back at previous weight), DE Cam Jordan, ILB Stephone Anthony, OLB Hau'oli Kikaha, OLB Kasim Edebali... You've got all these young UDRFA defensive linemen gems sitting there for excellent depth... Davis Tull will have a year to get healthy and take over opposite Kikaha... Another 6-2/6-3 ILB in next year's offseason (draft/FA) and that secondary will shine as we'd be zone blitzing the living **** out of quarterbacks... |
Re: Sean Payton: Pass rush “wasn’t good enough” last week
Look we just don't have defensive linemen on this roster who have the kinda quicks you need to jump offensive linemen and disrupt the passer consistently...
We have big cumbersome linemen; have a front three engage the five offensive linemen and allow quicker, faster linebackers to stunt and disrupt the passer... |
Re: Sean Payton: Pass rush “wasn’t good enough” last week
called them out in national media, expect a balls to the wall performance from them this week. good move sean
