Sharpers name is ther because the HOF looks strictly at what you did as a football player and ignores any off field activities.

With that said, I wouldn't mind if they kept him out of the Hall.

Maybe this is apples to oranges, but with Pete Rose's name -let alone personage- not being allowed in the halls of Cooperstown, the NFL would even bring up Shar(a)per? Really?

Does New Orleans have a baseball team?

Pro football hall of fame is not NFL from what I understand.

Obviously he was an incredible football player but rules should be put in place for keeping people like him out.

Let's say if the person in question served time in jail for abuse, rape, murder etc then they shouldn't be allowed an induction in my opinion.

I agree. Drugs (non performance enhancing) alcohol, and dui are one thing but violent criminals have no business being celebrated.

Hard to believe this is even a consideration. Guess who won't be there
to receive the award.

Re: Alan Faneca, John Carney, Darren Sharper on early list of Pro Football Hall of Fame candidates

I often think that these hall of fame organizations in all sports tend to meddle in matters that have nothing to with athletic achievements.

But in this extreme of a case you cannot seriously consider having "hall of fame" and the name of somebody like Sharper in the same sentence. Even though this, also, has nothing to do with the sport itself, he has such an egregious criminal record that he doesn't deserve any sort of honor, under any circumstances... This ain't betting.

Now, of course we all know he'll never get in for the reasons above. But the fact that they just blindly put him on the ballot is pretty stupid. And it's not like he's merely been accused. He's been CONVICTED in multiple states. Give me a break, man.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I think he'll be on the ballots but won't receive any votes.

I really don't think Sharper will get that many votes. Good luck to John Carney!
