Defense is what this team needs now.
When you can control the line of scrimmage, you control the game.
And that goes for both sides of the ball.
We have NOT had good run defense in quite a while.
It has crippled our LBs and our coverage for years.
The amount of run support our guys have to provide keeps our DBs banged up.
We had to go get "The Predator" from home it got so bad.
Then we go out and get a banged up Safety, so we can bang him up in run support.
Has anyone seen ANY of our cover guys looking back and playing the ball?
I haven't! Makes me wonder if they are coaching guys to cat-fight with the
receiver in anticipation of the ball whizzing past their ear hole.
It's sickening to think that an NFL corner can't run and look back at the same time.
Pass interferences and 1st-and-goals just waiting to happen.
Doesn't even have to be a good throw or a great catch - just gimmies.
No business at the NFL level if you can't make a play on the ball.
My clock is still running waiting on good fundamental tackling.
I can't even count the number of 3rd-and-17s converted after 3 missed tackles.
Until we can consistently get some stops and get our defense off the field,
we are going to need 35-40 points a game, and that's not looking very good.

Sorry fellas, but that defense alone would probably consume 80% of todays salary cap.

With our current QB and offense we'd be approximately 100 million over the cap.

As long as Payton is coach, this team will have to patch a defense together. He's an offensive minded coach and will always devote the most resources to the toys he wants.
