Window closed...
I think the window for the Payton-Brees era has closed.
I don't say that happily obviously. I wanted to see the magic one more time. I don't say it arrogantly (I told you so manner) because I really thought we'd win 11 looking at the schedule, starting slow until the defense could get some experience. WRONG! The offense is pedestrian at best and that was not on my radar. Dead money galore. Brees not himself (either injured, slowing down, or lacking support) O-line inconsistent pass blocking and horrible run blocking WRs can't get separation Defense improving but still gives up too many big plays Pass rush is weak at best Draft = disaster and free agency no better I can see Ryan gone as the scapegoat, Allen & Payton coaching a Brees-less team in cap hell. Rebuilding next year - assuming Payton will stay. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I stick with the Saints until the end - but the window has closed on the combo that brought us a Champion... |
