You can throw, it just hurts a little and you don't have as much strength. Tore mine back in 2000 and worked with it for 3 months before I had surgery to repair it. Your shoulder becomes unstable though and it could dislocate if the tear is significant.

If he can recover and make those throws great. If not, things get even easier for defenses. I hope that's not the plan.

Well if he's out any length of time lets see if Luke McCown will shine like he said in that verizon commercial about backups.

this should be the year Ryan Griffin took over but that dayum Loomis find a way to make me cringe about a draft pick. In a perfect world Griffin and Stills will be playing next week and the following day we would be talking about the passing of the tourch

Ever had a rotator cuff injury? It is very painful, but not totally debilitating.

In other words, likely.

How is that likely? You seem like an expert on just about everything, do tell...

This is not what I found out on my Score app. It said it is believed to not be serious and his playing status will depend on how he responds to treatment.

He was throwing with whatever injury he suffered on that hit. I have watched every pass he has thrown in his Saints career, including those earlier in the game, and those passes after the hit were severely affected by something. He is tough enough to throw through a cuff injury because he has more guts than any QB we have ever had.

Totally agree. But my point was that I think Drew's smart enough to know the difference (& experienced). Clearly the injury impaired his ability to throw, it was noticeably worse after that hit. I just thought it was a sign that it wasn't too serious

It's been already reported that the xrays came up negative for a tear, and that it's only a bruised shoulder.

Report: Brees’ injury is bruise not a tear | KLFY

Unfortunately, that was sourced by Chris Mortenson, the biggest liar at ESPN.

Addition -- some are saying that the information was provided by Ed Werder. Unfortunately, Ed Werder is the SECOND biggest liar at ESPN (behind Chris Mortensen).

Well which is it? A bruised or torn rotator cuff? Don't wait for Payton to tell the truth. I don't think he should have let Drew finish the game yesterday. He made have a created a more serious injury by playing.

Another thing about rotator cuff injuries is that they can often be hard to diagnose, depending on where the tear is. The initial test may show one thin and additional damage found later.

I've heard the scans have been sent to Dr. James Andrews to look at. The conflicting reports may be a result of conflicting opinions by the doctors.

My thinking is simple. Brees never misses a game even if hurt, it cant be good.

Same . Im just worried that Brees has been told they cant do anymore for that shoulder, so just try to work it out. Have surgery to maybe pass well again and miss one season, or just hang it up, and you should be fine in a year or 2 with no pain.
We both know Brees will skip the surgery to play. Id rather he hang it up and not be in pain, hes done enouph or wait till next season.

I had a torn rotater cuff and labrum 7 years ago and it still hurts like hell if IG lift something wrong. Granted I didnt have the access to the kind of medical staff he does, but its no joke. I have said for years that Payton has leaned way to heavily on the pass for Drew to be able to play into his late 30s. A running game would have gone a long way extending his career.

This is true. When I had mine, x-ray didn't detect it and an author gram didn't see it either which is why I worked with it for 3 months. So depending on your tolorence of pain you could still throw with it but the strength is just not there. Only a MRI and 2 doctors finally saw my tear and when they went in also found a bone spur that had to be shaved down so just because the first Dr. Didn't see anything I wouldn't exhale a sigh of relief just yet. When Dr. Andrews gives the all clear then I'll breath that sigh of relief. Hopefully it is just bruised but those 2 hits could have easily caused a tear with his arm in motion.

It reportedly happened towards the end of last season too. If he couldnt heal from that during an entire offseason then it doesnt look good for him healing in time to play again.

I suspected he didn't start or play much in the preseason for a reason. But still we won't know anything for another 48 hours due to treatments he's getting - probably cortisone shot or something.

Re: RUMOR - Torn Rotator Cuff

My guess is we are waiting 48 hours for the swelling to go down so they can get a better look and see if there's not a more serious injury hidden there.

You can't... been laughing about that one a lot today. It's either torn or strained. My bet is a small tear that is just limiting and painful enough to put Brees out for 6-8 games, possibly the season.

Re: RUMOR - Torn Rotator Cuff

First of all it is not a rumor, but fact, that Drew Brees has a torn rotator cuff...

He's had it since he's been playing for us...

Second, what he does have is a reconstructed joint of sorts that requires continually rehab work, harder workouts than most other quarterbacks, to maintain the required strength and range of motion to perform as a passer...

Now, what may and probably did happened is he received an acute trauma (bad f*cking bruise) to that reconstructed joint upon being sacked...

And that is why he'll need to rest to reduce swelling and fluid accumulate...

Then he'll need to carefully balance rehab while not aggravating the recuperating reconstructed joint...

Usually 72 hours of recovery is necessary for a more accurate diagnostic test and diagnosis...

While I hate to see our most successful quarterback in team history go down like this, I look forward to the opportunity to see if Grayson can step up and show what moxie he has...

And if Grayson has the right stuff, then it'll be time to approach Drew to do the what's best for the team and retire gracefully and relieve the team of serious cap strain...

The rotator cuff is simply a cluster of four muscles and their tendons. A tear would usually occur in the tendon. Although, the muscles themselves can bruise like any other muscle. If you can ever been punched in the very upper shoulder you may have experienced a bruised rotator cuff and never knew it.
