with the current ransom payment set up as is, going into benson's pocket, i think it would pass. la certainly has wasted money more foolishly. a box on the state income tax donating $100 gets you a certificate. $1000 gets you a certificate and a voucher for 2 tickets. $10000 gets you a seat next to sullivan (where the food is) at a high falootin dinner shindig with 4 tickets. state ownership sends one home game per year to shreveport or baton rouge. |

okay, okay, just one more...
keep the current deal but make the state check to him based on team performance. about 15mil now for 4 years of mediocrity. so make the deal that the state pays 1.5mil PER WIN including post season. think that might light a fire under someone\'s arse to see some results? 4-12= 6mil 8-8= 12mil 12-4 with 3 post season wins= 22.5mil or even curve it- 4 wins or less= 0 5-8 wins=8mil 9-12 wins=16mil 13-16 wins=20mil 2 million bonus for every postseason victory |

I think the offer should be based on a percentage of the hotel tax. since. that is where the money is supposed to come from anyway it would always be there, just good sometimes and bad others. Payment to the saints should be made in some part for State advertising and the tourism during game times and supebowl that it brings. As far as incentive, the better the team does the more people will attend games and more money spent.

I\'d say no to state ownership. It\'s bad enough that it is being run by a miser such as Benson. Can you picture what\'s happen if the legislature had it\'s hand in day to day operations?
I can. A bunch of politicians stuffing their pockets, ala Benson. My preference would be for public ownership in the form of a corporation where the team is owned by individuals through the sale of stock open to the general public. Dividends would probably not pay out very much on $100 or $200 worth of stocks held, but I know many here would jump at the chance to own a piece of the team - even if it were just for the fact of saying you owned it. It gets alot more complicated since i\'m talking about trying to raise nearly 3/4 of a billion from the IPO but I\'m just thinking out loud. Anyway, I don\'t think the NFL would allow this. |

Let me ask you Louisiana boys something...
On CNN..it was talking about how poor the attendance was at Mardi Gras... Do you think that will have very much impact on how the sate translates it\'s Hotel tax, as far as ..what percentage does it need to increase..in order to ..1 pay the saints, and try to get the Stadium deal done..2 keep Hotel owners in New Orleans..in hopes of better turn outs during the \'\'Harvest Season\'\' better known as Mardi gras? What i mean is..will the drop in attendance reflect in how much the State is willing to bend in order to meet the demands of Benson? If Mardi Gras doesn\'t pull in major numbers..the Hotel tax looses it\'s punch..right? Kinda leaves the State in a bind..if thier cash cow...slows down |

I\'m not sure what impact Mardi Gras has overall. From what I understand, the real cash cow is conventions and N.O. is doing well at drawing plenty of those. The Saints are said to bring in only a small portion of what the conventions draw.
I\'m sure, though, that a drop in attendance at Mardi Gras is not a good sign that the hotel tax is going to come in as much as is needed. An article was posted a week or two ago about how far behind the hotel tax is already based on what was projected. Things are going to get nasty. |
