Re: Please get off of Brees

We can't win without him.
However the big question is: can we win with him? We do have a number of issues that probably cannot be overcome by any great QB.

It's not his fault the Saints are 0-3, the whole team needs to move up a gear and get themselves playing how they know they should be and that includes the coaching staff!

GEAUX SAINTS!!!
What was his excuse against Arizona?

Perhaps playing against arguably the best team in the NFC at their home? So far he is one of possibly 12 different QB's that will lose to the Cards this season.

Most people don't think Rodgers benefitted from Favre. He was already good.

It is all good and well to want the QB of tomorrow, but give me Brees for four more years instead of moving back to the days of Aaron Brooks and beyond. Simply put, you don't replace a part until you have a working part to use in its place.

Yes, McCown did well this week. Brees would have done just as well. In fact, I believe McCown played as well as he is capable ... and he lost.

You know the old saying, "beware of what you wish for, you just may get it." Personally I not wanting to go through another 30 year stretch of mediocre to poor QB's that have no shot of breaking .500 in any given season. No thank you.
Then why the hell did we draft Grayson?

My opinion is that he'll be an above average QB, in about 2 or 3 years, when Drew Brees starts his father time decline.

Re: Please get off of Brees

Trade for Colt McCoy from the redskins, basically a Brees clone that needs time, and have Brees work him in before retirement.
Like Im right about Spiller Im right about this kid. he would kick butt in our offense. No QB did well on the Browns.

McCoy weighs in at 216 pounds according to the Browns' site.

Brees is 209 pounds according to the Saints' site.

Some of the doubters have said that McCoy may not be able to take a beating in the NFL, but at his current weight there is no reason that he cannot take a beating, especially if Brees, who weighs in a bit lighter, can take it.

Just another example of the doubters fishing for any excuse they can find.

McCoy is the winningest quarterback in the NCAA's history, and his stats are better than those of Brees when he was in college at Purdue. This could be a result of better players at Texas with McCoy, but the point is that both had good college careers, and Brees has been able to transition to the NFL successfully.

Brees's Purdue stats: 11,792 yards, 61-percent completion percentage, 90 touchdowns

McCoy's Texas stats: 13,253 yards, 70-percent completion percentage, 112 touchdowns

Both Brees and McCoy were Heisman Finalists two times each.

McCoy was a finalist in 2008 and 2009.

Brees was a finalist in 1999 and 2000.

Both McCoy and Brees won similar awards at the college level, including both the Maxwell Award for most outstanding college player and the Davey O'Brien Award for the nation's top quarterback.

Brees won the Maxwell in 2000 and the O'Brien in 1999.

McCoy won both the Maxwell and O'Brien in 2009.

Brees has been known for his high football intelligence, and McCoy has said to have a high football IQ as well.

Back in 2000 Brees, along with one other player (Kyle Vanden Bosch), was named to the National Scholar Athletes list in its second year of naming college athletes.

McCoy was named to the National Scholar Athlete list in 2009 alongside other notables like Tim Tebow and Eric Decker.

It is well-known (or should be by now) that McCoy has looked up to Brees and that Brees was one of his idols while he was growing up and playing at Texas.

Brees even reached out to McCoy while he was at Texas to give him advice, tips, and whatever else mentors give to their fans and pupils.

Brees is a class act, and since McCoy has followed Brees closely and has been a fan, his career could closely mirror that of Brees'.

This also is speculation, but the key to success in McCoy's case is not only the advice he has already received from Brees while in college, but also the fact that Holmgren has decades of quarterbacking knowledge to share with McCoy.

If his receivers weren't dropping everything that hit their hands he wouldn't need one. Go back and watch that game. It was one of the worst performances by a group of WRs that you'll ever see.
