Joe Horn eyeing Marvin Harrision type money!

Quote:

Horn is entering the final year of a three-year contract he signed June 2, 2003. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has said the club will consider renegotiating a contract extension for Horn, the most prolific wide receiver in club history. Horn is scheduled to earn $4.8 million this season -- $3.8 million base salary and $1 million roster bonus.

At 33, Horn knows an extension could be his final contract, his last chance to make big money before hanging up his cleats. The eight-year, $72.1 million contract Harrison signed in December caught his attention.

"(The Saints) say they're going to take care of me, but their idea of taking care of me, and my idea of taking care of me might be completely different," Horn said. "I hope they follow through. We'll see what happens."

at 34 we do not need to invest too much into joe horn... i love the guy and all but we can\'t sink to much nickel into a player in the twilight of his career... now, if he was about 5 years younger, then sure, pay him, he\'s earned it....

We can\'t do that financially, especially when we need to shore up our defensive side of the ball.

If Joe is going to insist on such a contract, we\'ll have to let him go.

Watch out, talking defense in a WR post might bring some resentment! ;)

You know, maybe Brooks just looks for Horn more than any WR we have. If Horn leaves, he may start locking on someone else. Who lnows, maybe Donte will become the next Horn.

After Horns comments about the fans I\'m all for trading/releasing him and going in a different direction. But I hold grudges.
Maybe we can work a sign&swap&compensate with the Ravens for Hartwell, or any other player of theirs on defense.

I defintely want to keep Horn around since he\'s been one of our most consistently good performers over the past 5 years. BUT, if he wants that kind of money - especially a huge signing bonus - we may just have to let him ride out the last year of his contract with us and see if anyone else will be willing to pay him that kind of cash after \'05.

Franchise Horn, sign Porter, then let Horn walk next year. If not, Horn please don\'t let the door hit you on the way out. He is not Marvin Harrison nor Randy Moss, which means he can be replaced.

Just a hunch, but I think ole Joe wants out of New Orleans, whether it be in a Saint uniform or not.

Eli Manning, NY talk show, 10 minute weekly call in, $100,000.
Joe Horn, New Orleans radio show, 1 hour, $10,000.

Think Joe has Los Angeles money on the brain?

Joe is one of the all time best we have ever had in N.O. but he isn\'t all we have or need. If he is going to demand that type of money at his age we have to let him go. Gonna miss you Joe!

i enjoyed watching joe lead by his playing more than his mouth last season. he is a tough go-to guy even if he does not have gamebreaking speed. the game has turned into tough business tho. the fact is, at 33, he will be fortunate to maintain his skills at the level they are for another coupla years. he is still under contract for the coming season. i dont see the wisdom of an extension unless he makes it friendly for the team. not to beat the pats successful cap model into the ground, but milloy was an integral to their defense but they thought he wanted more green than what his production warranted. who cannot like troy brown? at his age he will probably have to restructure his contract to team friendly numbers to stay there. so as much as i like joe i gotta ditto the pats model. if he was 3 years younger it would be completely diff. as pointed out in some thread here, the saints west coast theme has been quite pass happy. if brooks completions over the past 4 years were spread evenly between 2 wr, 1 te, and 1 rb it would be 75 catches each per season. that does dim joe\'s numbers to me somewhat. somebody had to catch\'em. --my 2 cents
