In case you didn't notice, we started blowing things up last season...

We've had a really great draft that is already paying dividends this season...

Pray more personnel decision making is shifted to the competent Jeff Ireland...

Payton has plenty of good Saints Football left in him; I want him to stay put...

Loomis, not so much...

Why not get someone competent if you're replacing SP?

Couple of questions before we light the dynamite....Can Tom Benson handle a blow-up, right now? Is he up for the challenge, at his age? Who makes the hiring/firing decisions in this blow up/tear down? Gail? Rita? Tom? Loomis? Somebody else? A judge in Texas?

Will blowing up the team INCREASE any revenue, profits, or team income, over what it is currently at, now?

News flash! The Dome is still sold out, folks, profits were up 36% last year ...it's more than likely that the main conversations between Loomis and the family these days have more to do with THAT, the numbers, and the bottom line, rather than the hiring or firing of under-performing assistant coaches and the specific players on the field....

If someone wants to fire Loomis, all Loomis has to do to save his own skin is point to the bottom line. Dome is sold out, revenues are up up UP....the Saints are still very successful, to the Benson family right now. And Payton and Loomis, Drew, Vitt, McMahon, Johnson, whoever...they're all joined at the hip, thick as thieves, folks -- the whole dang band....

And by the way, has anybody even seen Benson at one of the games, lately? Sunday night football, on national TV, against the Cowboys, the camera panned to Jerry, Jerry, Jerry....any shots of Tom and the fam? Has he issued a statement or interview, saying that he's unhappy with anything the team is doing lately?

And like him or not, Loomis, with his sleeves rolled up and his hands stuck in the guts of both the Hornets and Saints up to the elbows, is pretty much untouchable... is Benson at age 88 going to suddenly trust his money and his empire to some new complete stranger, coming in? How likely IS that? Not very.

Unfortunately, in spite of the team's struggles, I have seen NOTHING in recent months that makes me think that this organization has budged anywhere from their same position, of the last 2-3 years -- living in the past, building statues of themselves, and milking Katrina and the Super Bowl year for all its worth.

Anyone want to bet that they will show Katrina footage and the Gleason block on the Jumbotron in the Dome, before the game this week against the Falcons, for like the umpteenth time?

I see Payton pulling a Jim Mora and walking away before the end of the season. Brees gets cut after the season.

Frankly, I don't think Benson is up for the challenge of going to the bathroom by himself anymore. And I am not saying that to be crass, or funny, or anything of the sort. Seems the situation is similar to the Raiders, Bills, and Oilers/Titans, with aging owners who are not all there...

I have a lot of thoughts on what should happen but here is what I think will happen:

- Rob Ryan will be fired mid-season and Dennis Allen will replace him as DC
- Sean Payton will retire at the end of the season and take a year off before coming back to the NFL with another team
- Brees contract will be terminated end of season leaving us in further cap purgatory
- Loomis will be fired end of season
- totally need HC, OC, DC and GM next year

Depending on who becomes the new regime tells if we are a in for a decade of mediocrity or rebuild back to a contender. I will say that there are a lot of pieces with potential to work with.

I normally agree with you lummox, however I'm hoping to see a continued renovation of the team. We started rebuilding this offseason. We've already had our fire sale. We cleaned house in the scouting department and apparently we drafted better this year. We started an inordinate amount of rookies this year. They will be veterans soon and seasoned veterans by next year.

Bringing Ireland in gave the franchise a fresh perspective......which is good because the organization had become a little too comfortable. I believe Ireland reigned in Payton during this last draft and kept him focused on the game plan and not on the shiny toys. We seem to be following a different directive now.

So far I can't tell if Allen is helping this team or not but I'll give him a pass this year. We have the new pieces in place to be a good team. Byrd is back.....so is Lewis. Breaux is stepping up nicely.

Loomis won't be fired. He will continue to work the numbers. That is what he does. Numbers. Ireland is here and will have an effect on next year's off season moves I believe. I expect to see several new faces next year for O-line and D-line coaches as well as every defensive position coach. Special teams has to part ways with McMahon. Even Marcus Murphy can't save his job.......fingers crossed!

The Saints may need to look over Drew's contract at the end of the season then they can see what kind of staying power he has. I don't believe Drew is going anywhere. We need Drew and would be mediocre without him.

Before long the cap restrictions we have will be negligible. Every GM writes bad contracts and Loomis has too. But it was part of the plan to roll the dice on small school and injured players. It was a bad plan to begin with. Soon we will be coming out from under some bad contracts. There is already a new mission statement in place after last season and I believe.

As for Payton getting fired.........Not Gonna' Happen! :nono:

We are in for a record of 7-9 again if we go on a run later in the year when the schedule is easier. Everyone knows that Payton won't throw in the towel for better picks like the Buc's did last year. We may very well be picking higher than that though so it might be a good time to swap players for picks. Currently we have almost no one worth value to trade at this stage of the game. So, we are stuck with Jordan and his average production.

If we terminate Brees's contract next year we free up 20 million on the cap, and if we designate it port June 1, we free up 25 million.
