Re: I still believe
Given the overall, objective track record of Sean Payton, it's hard for me to imagine this complete dramatic implosion into a sucking sinkhole, that some people are visualizing.
Based on the past (especially what happened in 2007), I suspect Payton will most likely find some way to claw this team back to semi-mediocrity by the end of the year. He's never been worse than 7-9 as a head coach, and I think as an OC or assistant he has never had a really famously stink-bad season either; I think he might have had ONE year at Philly as an assistant coach where they won like 3 or 4 games, but there's really just not a precedent for THAT MUCH losing in his history. Although there's always a first time, isn't there?
What's far more likely in reality is that we will keep plodding along in mediocrity, win some, lose some, struggling in agony and keeping some dim faint hope alive, at least mathematically on paper, each week it's "we still have a chance," which no one in the room will believe except for Drew at the podium. Where the season becomes a grueling slog, like a 2007 or 2014 type year. We're already seeing those same Drew press conferences we've grown to know and love over the years.
I predict they will claw their way back to near sub-.500, five or six wins, and then the Falcons will wrap the division and be resting their starters in week 16. The Saints will win that game, in a nail biter, and drop anywhere from 3-7 places to the middle of the draft because of the win, and this forum will go absolutely bonkers.
