I don't mean to be a downer after a big road. Prior to the season, we all expected a tough time and probably loss in Indy given the hype surrounding them.
It was a great win, and things are looking up, but we still have lots of holes on both sides of the ball.
And worst of all, we dug ourselves a VERY deep hole. Right now we're only back up to a little better than a 1 in 6 chance of the playoffs.
NFC Playoff Picture
Between Carolina and Atlanta, it is hard to imagine BOTH of them cratering, so the division is likely out of reach.
That leaves us fighting for a wildcard and there are a bunch of teams ahead of us in that race:
Falcons 6-1
Vikings 4-2
Rams 3-3
Seahawks 3-4 (better NFC record)
Redskins 3-4 (better NFC record)
Eagles 3-4 (have head to head win over us)
We have to pass up 5 of those 6 teams and stay ahead of those we are already ahead of (DAL, TB, CHI, SF, DET) to be the 6th seed. TALL ORDER.
I have a sneaking suspicion that loss to Tampa in week 2 will be the deciding game against us... Typical Saints luck.
For now I'm enjoying the small victories - some sacks and turnovers - and not looking big picture (at least not seriously). Hope the players are doing the same because we can't say the corner on this season has been turned yet...
