Remind Me Not to Get Excited

The Saints have started 0-2 four times in the last 10 seasons (2007, 2012, 2014, 2015) and every time the team has crawled back to .500 between weeks 8-10, but they’ve never climbed back to a winning record. Not a single time.

OK, here's something else to keep you down,

We had the worst defense in the NFL before this game.

We're almost on a 2012 pace for worse defense in NFL history.

Does that help?

Scott, I think this is the opposite of trying to not get him excited. You kinda suck at pessimism.

10-6 is a real possibility. I keep thinking we lose to skins and either panties or falcons. week to week with this team. need the win over titans so bad

Well since you put it that way.....

I remember a lot of people said that if we could go 4-4 to start we'd be in good shape.

I said after the second loss that this where we find out what kind of coach Payton is. If this is a good team by the end of the season he'll have earned every penny he's getting paid. So far I think he's on track.

If the goal is to be as negative as possible all we have to do is pretend we're in any youtube comment section.

" ur all idiots, teh sants cant stop ne1 & will be lucky 2 win another game"

"I think we have a real shot to win a lot of these games. We need to clean up a few things"

"dat's wat ur mom said"

"What does that have to do with anything?"

"yur mom has to do with it"

"Uh... Ok"

"uhhhh ur queer".

We need to introduce this offense to the defense that played in Indy.

In my defense, when the first of the month is on a Sunday I only take about 25% of my medications bc I forget to pick up the other 6.
My thoughts might lack clarity, but at least I have a place to hang my towel

after we bade good riddance to Spags, I didn't care where he went, and didn't know he was at NY. Ironic that he comes back and gets 600 yards laid on him Karma.

The season will go with the Defense.... who knows what D will show up in what QTR.

One week the D does something well, the next week they are hot trash. I don't know what to think of the D because there is no consistency at all. The only thing we know for certain is Browner will be called for multiple penalties every game.

I have never wanted a Saint to get hurt but Browner going down might actually benefit the team.

If you are asking for permission then consider it granted.

I am not excited but I understand those who are. A win like today is great, but poses a lot of new questions about the D.

What if he did put up 500 yards a game 5 TDs from now on? :D

Re: Remind Me Not to Get Excited

My question is, how can you not be excited and ALL IN after yesterday. That game was completely off the chain. Even rickety old man Colston WALKED INTO the end zone for his TD!!! There was just no one anywhere near him, for like half the field!!! And Cooks strutted in for his TD, doing that straight-legged, kick-step thing like a drum corps leader with a baton would do. How can you not love that?

There's times to be cautiously optimistic and restrained, to measure, to pull on your goattee and squint, to be calculated, to examine the weaknesses and measure all the intangibles. And then there's times to just throw your whole bowl of popcorn in the air, and high five the people all around you, and this was definitely one of those times.

Indeed, I have pulled on my goatee and squinted a lot in the early portion of this season. More of the pulling than the squinting. It helps keep the walls around me intact.

But yeah, I wasn't excited about the defense yesterday, though the score made it look worse than it was. There were some huge mistakes out there that had nothing to do with the Giants. The Giants were lucky in that sense, but it still means the defense was responsible for screwing it up. That said, you can't not be excited about scoring 52. Offense has been this team's identity for a decade.

So even when the defense struggles, when you can score like that, it feels like the old days (not the old, old days). If the defense becomes somewhat consistent, this team has a chance to win any game on the schedule now.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!!!!!

Remember, the Defense allowed 48 points.

Keep the faith, just don't drink the kool-aid.

Technically 42, one TD was a fumble return :p

Re: Remind Me Not to Get Excited

Had so much fun watching that game. Wicked cool game of all time, nice to see the old Brees outshoot ELi , and O having fun, but thats all it is.

Unless Saints win what they lost, the - 4 in row vs
Ten = below average
Was= average
Hou = below average
Cam kittens = above average and lucky
,and pay back the below average TB to be 9-4 or 8-5. Winning both divisional games to put the Saints in the running.
Im not drinking the post season bandwagon kool-aid .
An above average team would find a way to win at least 4-1 of these games.

Because only at that point do you have 2 more below average teams, Det, Jax, and a possibility of 10-5 or 11-4.

Problem is our defense is still hot garbage, and lost us most post season games before. They fold like a picnic chair.
3 of the opposing teams sites I was on said the same thing. If Brees had just a decent ,consistent Defense threw out his career in N.O., he would have easily had 2 or maybe more SB wins.
Im just going to enjoy watching the boys win cool games like this, and don't expect much. Fun game.

That was a game that pitted the two worse defenses against one another

32 New York Giants 427.5
31 New Orleans Saints 406.2

- Yes we were the worst D in football for several weeks. If you go purely
by stats, they're horrible.
- but I saw aggressiveness, pressure, some ball hawking, giants runners
stuffed at the line.
- also sunday, they made the stop that counted. the last one that forced a punt.

- yall know ive been critical, but im starting to like this defense, and our
young guns

100% agree. Statistically, they are horrible. But, they have not quit and have made plays when they had to. They'll continue to improve and gel.

statistically bad, yes, I agree with you that it doesn't mean much in a win

here's my big concern:
14 points by Atl in the 4th Q
21 points by Indy in the last 18 minutes
28 2nd half points by the Giants

are we tired on defense, or are everybody's adjustments working and ours aren't?
