So who's calling offensive plays?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Just wondering. The offense definitely has a different style about it than the first couple of games. Has Payton gone to rehab or is Carmichael calling some shots....

Re: So who's calling offensive plays?

Or perhaps, OT Terron Armstead returning...

WR Willie Snead growing with the offense...

Integration of CJ Spiller into the scheme...

Finding relief for the foot of WR Marques Colston...

The Maturation of Left Guard Tim Leito...

Return of Roll Tide Hitting the Hole and NOT Side Stepping...

But after that ill-advise, ill-timed reverse, you really think Payton wasn't callling plays Sunday?!?
Crusader, K Major and Mr.Riaton like this.

The flea flicker was another dead giveaway that it was Payton at the wheel, but only difference was this time it ACTUALLY WORKED. How many times over the years has Payton run that crazy flea flicker, and it's been an incomplete pass or a Brees pick.

I think Brees is feeling better then he has been and seems to be getting more comfortable with his options to throw to. In the first few games he didn't know what to do with out his safety blanket, now he is letting it fly and his guys are coming down with it.

I really think the play calling was affected by Drews injury. The FF was the first long pass Drew has attempted in 4 games. It was only 50 yards and you could tell it was lacking his usual zip. Give Drew 2 more weeks and I think he will be back to his old ways.

Re: So who's calling offensive plays?

The play calling has definitely changed. I don't think it has anything to do with injuries or guys picking up the scheme. I think the biggest reason for the change has been getting Michael from the patriots as our 3rd tightend.

I honestly can not remember the last time we've run so many plays out of the 3 tightend sets. It has really been giving teams trouble because it's hard to predict what we're going to do out of it. All our tightends can catch and they can all block.

Plus it's creating great matchups for cooks since teams are trying to load up against our 3 tightend sets and leaving him in one on one coverage.

Now as to who's calling plays...your guess is as good as mine but this new scheme is working and keeping brees upright so I'm happy.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember the flea flicker having a good deal of success over the years. Maybe just not as much lately. And, It's awesome when it works. I've got the GIF of that one on my phone and can't seem to stop watching it...
