Derland Moore
Just wanted to share a little story that he told me. I saw him today at the business he owns - Ft Knox Storage in Mandeville. Obviously looking older and slower but still a thick dude. We talked about the two nfl arm wrestling championships that he won back in the day. The first one was against Fred Dean in the finals, (after having already had 17 matches in that one day) Dean was the ex DT for the 49ers. Although Moore won, he said Dean was the strongest man he had ever seen on or off the field. He said he saw Dean pick up Stan Brock with one arm and throw him across the field like a rag doll. He said that Dean's muscles were so tight and thick, that he once got shot in the stomach but his ab muscles blocked the bullet from going any deeper. Anyway, it was nice listening to some of his stories. If any of you old timers are ever in the area, you should stop in and see him - he enjoys talking about his playing days.

Re: Derland Moore
I remember Derland Mooore, he was one of the bright spots on our defense back then. I remember his name being called a lot.

Re: Derland Moore
#74! Derland Moore. Oklahoma.
If I'm on the North Shore, I will make it a point. How cool is it that just regular people can go talk to him. He was truly great. -- here's a fun fact, in case any of you do go to see Derland Moore. He once told Sports Illustrated that if he met anyone who said they wore a bag over their head, he would punch them. He's prob mellowed, but if it were me, I wouldn't chance it You didn't have to tell me Fred Dean played for the Niners. I remember. ... And Stan Brock! Great job 44. Your post has blessed my heart . |
