O.K. I know that Sammy Knight had a sub-par year, but you have to look at part of the reason why. The Saints had absolutely NO ONE to stop the run. Sammy was constantly having to play more of a linebacker role to help with the run then he did in pass coverage. The smart thing to do would be to give Sammy a good contract and dump some other dead weight...Clemons, Hand, Bellamy, Whitehead, Irvin, etc...There are more than capable guys to play on the defense and with smart draft picks and a couple big defensive free agent signings, the Saints can be a perfectly balanced team. Oh, yeah. FIRE THAT WASTE OF SPACE, RICK VENTURI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree we shouldn\'t get in a bidding war. Sam is a great player & bring a fiesty attitude to the secondary, however i believe we can get that same kinda player out the draft for less (Julian Battle, Ken Hamlin, Mike Doss or Troy Polamalu) with more speed & better coverage ability. Plus I see Mel Mitchell taking over FS.

i think there is a good chance the saints will name sammy their \"transition\" player, its kinda like a poor mans \"franchise\" player, i think it entitles us the ability to match any offer sammy recieves, and if we dont match it then we are granted draft picks but im not sure which round it is in, i think it is the round that the player was drafted when he first entered the league, but im kinda hazy on this issue, anyone know ??

I ain\'t skrd either Pak. D - I have been saying the same thing for who knows how long. Gator put it best though. Sammy is one of the best players on the team, but the bottom line comes down to bang for your buck. There are a lot of good safeties and corners available this off-season.

Sammy Sammy Sammy....
I like the guy but if we can get better its a no brainer. Plus we don\'t need to spend the bank on a player coming off a sub par season. Can\'t wait until the trading kicks into full swing. Anticipation. |
