Did you expect anything different?

Let us be realistic, this is a rebuilding year. We went into the season with a 90 yr old wr and 2 pretty much rookie wr's. On the defensive side we were counting on 2 rookie LB's and a revamped D-line full of a bunch of late draft picks from last year. We have 2 TE's who have been backups their whole career and plugged in 2 o-linemen that would not start for most college teams. I know we are all upset with the record but could we of expected more?
With that being said I see next year a make or break season. Our cap room will look much better and Drew should fix that mess of a contract extending him another year or 2. This year I see a 7-9 season and one or two players next year could improve our record to a 10-11 win team. Browner should be gone and Breaux will be starting across from Lewis. RR will be gone and the defense will look much better.

Re: Did you expect anything different?

I expected 11-5, and I still think thats what our talent level indicates.

Even with a 90 year old WR, 2 rookie WR's, 2 back-up TE's we're still the number one offense in the NFL.

With the worst defense in world history, to have the number one offense in the league is outstanding.

If we simply had a middle of the road defense we'd probably be 7-3 as we speak.

I thought we would be 12-4. With Unger and Peat I thought the line would be better.

I agree completely! But with 2 rookies, 2 comming back from season ending injuries and 3 second year players starting I just could not picture a middle of the road defense. Now, no way I expected this defense! I believe we will set records we don't want to set this year on defense.

I also expected a better line. Peat has been a disappointment to say the least. Strief and Evans needs to find a new team next year.

True, I really expected the young players to get better and better as the year went along. We have some very good, but extremely young up and coming players. I didn't expect a top 10 defense, but we don't need one. A mid-pack defense would have been good enough. We absolutely had the talent for that.

The big blows were losing that idiot Galette (although I agree with cutting him), and injuries to Keenan Lewis, Glen Foster, Broderick Bunkley, and Jarius Byrd. But thats no excuse for the worst defense in the history of Earth.

This year probably took 2 seasons off his career. I see him playing 2 more years at the most.

I'm surprised that Brees hasn't been seriously injured yet this year!

He had stitches in his lip from last weeks game and at one point in todays game he was sandwiched in between to beast size Redskin players and then his helmet flew off and went rolling across the turf!

I hope I'm proved wrong but the way things are going you can just see a big hit taking him out and him not getting up off of the turf if things carry on the way they are!!! :-(

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

I never knew what to expect coming into this season. There was a great deal of unknown. But I expected to beat the bad teams. I didn't expect to BE the bad team and get blown out by sub .500 teams. I thought we might be good or be like last year again. We are much worse than last year.

Strief is horrible. And to be honest when our line was good he was the weak link. Now that our line is mediocre, it shows how bad he is

On our list of problems with this team, Zach Strief isn't even in the top 10.

Strief is one of the main reasons Brees has taken so much punishment. I think he is well in the top 10 seeing how Brees has been abused this year

Actually Evans, Lelito and Kelemete are the main reasons Drew's being pressured.

But even then... we are the number one offense in the entire NFL.

We are number one offense because people score so fast on our defense that we get the ball 60 times a game

I get what you're saying here but when your offense gets shut down for long stretches against bad teams, it's a meaningless statistic.

Just my own opinion, but yards are meaningless without points. Washington scored 33 unanswered today against our #1 offense...#1 offense is meaningless for that.

We're 8th in scoring offense w/25.5 per game, and we go in droughts with our scoring.

The Dude 11-15-2015 06:55 PM

Re: Did you expect anything different?

Nope. When I saw our defense damn near blow 2 20 point leads in back to back games I knew the rest of the season would wind up like today. We won't win another game unless we get the ball first and our offense is playing lights out.

Did I expect different? Damn right I did. A team should be improving throughout the year. The only thing they've improved on is the quality of suck.

Define droughts.

I'll bet we're near the top of the NFL in points per possession, fewest 3 & outs etc...

Our defense sucks. Its about as plain and simple as it could be. Our defense absolutely blows freaking chunks.

Because of Drew and his ability to release the ball quick. Strief gets destroyed by quick DE's. A fast move gets by him constantly. I am hoping Peat will replace him next year and Evans replaced by Kelemete or someone not 72 yrs old making 10 mil a year.

Most RT's get destroyed by quick DE's. its why they aren't playing LT.

Strief is currently middle of the pack for RT's. He's not as good as previous years, but he's not as bad as some are suggesting.

Re: Did you expect anything different?

Scoring droughts for this season I've noticed? It's the unanswered points and the times between those that stand out the most.

@ AZ - We did well against a great defense, though our Red Zone offense did us no favors.
TB - 20 unanswered from the end of 2nd Qtr to mid-4th Qtr
@ CAR - 17 unanswered from mid 3rd Qtr to end 4th Qtr
DAL - We did pretty well scoring offense...no problems here
@ PHI - 29 unanswered from start of 3rd Qtr to 4 seconds left in the game
ATL - We didn't score on offense between mid 1st Qtr until we kicked a FG midway through the 3rd Qtr.
@ IND - 21 unanswered. Yes, we had a 27-0 lead, but we never scored again after 10:30 in the 3rd Qtr. We punted 10 freakin' times b/c we couldn't put them away with our offense with our shaky defense.
NYG - 21 unanswered from end of 3 Qtr to end of 4th Qtr. This was one whacky game...
TEN - 10 unanswered from beginning of the 2nd Qtr to the beginning of the 4th Qtr.
@ Was - 33 unanswered as we scored at the beginning of 2nd Qtr and never scored again

Danno 11-15-2015 08:23 PM

Re: Did you expect anything different?

Change "unanswered" to "our defense allowed" and you'll see the problem.

Barry from MS 11-15-2015 08:45 PM

Re: Did you expect anything different?

That's the response I would have come back with, as well. Our defense is atrocious.

The point I guess I failed to make was the time between our scores in each game. In 8 of our 10 games we didn't score on offense for over a quarter. In 4 of those games it was almost 2 quarters without scoring anything. The defense not getting off the field didn't help these in some instances, as well, keeping our offense off the field.

But do you realize we still got 350 yards of total offense today, yet we scored 14 points? When we are in "catch-up mode" from these unanswered/our-defense-allowed-points, their defense play back to prevent the big play and we can rack up yards underneath late in games.

I'll rather take lower yards & higher points from our offense. I'll also take a defense that'll get their offense off the field on 3rd down & create turnovers for our offense.

Strief is a right of passage for d-linemen. He's very inconsistent Pass Blocking is Piss Poor We need TWO Guards and a RIGHT TACKLE LT & Center are the ONLY mainstays on this o-line

Re: Did you expect anything different?

Our O line ranks 24. That is disappointing from when we had top 5 O LINE. You can say it's just the D, but it is the whole team. Even Special Teams. When was last time you felt comfortable with a kicker we have had. But Hopkins looked pretty good. Who makes that decision. That guy outscored our whole team and we cut him for someone who isn't on our team.

2014 our line was 11th. We shouldn't have gotten worse with a 1st rd pick and trade for Unger.

I think he's absolutely that bad. If he's playing RT because he isn't good enough to play LT, shouldn't he at least be a good RT? The is always either giving up sacks or holding because he's getting beat. He's not the only bad lineman we have, but he's the one I see getting beat the most.

2013 Oline was 10th, 2012 Oline was 3. That is a big decline.
