Whatever additional changes could come the New Orleans Saints way via coach Sean Payton were not immediately evident after one day back from their bye. At least not for one player.
Saints receiver Brandin Cooks said Monday during a promotional event at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome that things seemed mostly the same as before, with a continued desire to turn a 4-6 record into something positive. "Everything seemed the same," Cooks said after a Monday practice. "Whatever (Payton) has going on, I'm pretty sure he's doing it for a reason." The Saints play Sunday at the Houston Texans (5-5), who hold a three-game win streak and the No. 5 passing defense by yards allowed. "We got to know we're on a short leash right now," Cooks said. "We don't have any room for mistakes. We got to go in with our head down and go to work and battle like we've been doing all season." The Saints fired former defensive coordinator Rob Ryan one day after a 47-14 loss Nov. 15 at Washington that stood as the most lopsided defeat in the Payton era. The team moved Dennis Allen into Ryan's old coordinator role, and Payton said last week other changes "might take a little bit of time and it might hurt going down for some people, but we'll get it squared away." "It happens in this game," Cooks said about the Saints' firing of Ryan. "We just have to stay focused on what we have to." We had little room for error 4 games ago.
We had slight room for errors 3 games ago. Had Zero room for error 2 games ago, and Clawing at a season ending cliff last game. We are off that cliff, and if someone doesnt have a plan to pull that parachute we are done. No one gets blown out by the redskins. |

Win 6 or bust (and even that may not be good enough)

Re: Saints return from bye with little room for error, Brandin Cooks says
Little margin for error? We better had learned to get a stop on 3rd down over the bye for the next 3 weeks or we're staring at 4-9. Our offense can't be depended on to score 30+ in the next 3 games. The Texans, the Panthers, & now the Bucs actually know how to play defense.
The Texans are pretty danged good in Pass defense. The Panthers are, well, the Panthers. And Lovie Smith has got that defense rolling & he has Payton's number. And that ain't negativity...that's reality. |

I love my Saints! But we aren't making the playoffs. Not this year anyway.

Yeah that playoff ship may have left the Gulf without us. What will be encouraging is improvement in the Defense and maybe a few guys blocking for Drew.
