Saints lose to Carolina and 4th in a row

1 Attachment(s)
The Carolina Panthers beat the Saints 41-38 on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, overcoming a flurry of first-half turnovers with a steady and ultimately overpowering offensive attack.

The Panthers (12-0) officially clinched their third consecutive NFC South championship before the game, and the Saints (4-8) are on the verge of official elimination from the playoffs.

The Panthers scored the winning touchdown with 1:05 left when Cam Newton hit Jerricho Cotchery in the back of the end zone.

With no timeouts left, the Saints scrambled to get in position for a late field-goal attempt but couldn't get past midfield.

Maybe I'm in the minority, aside from Browner being active, game was competitive and from where our defense was three weeks ago, not bad, We just lack leadership on defense. We are "dumb", really "dumb"..made some really "dumb" personal fouls, Stupid decisions…….Overall though, that's what a division game should be..tough, down to the end. The Redskin and Eagles game were embarrassing, this was just a tough loss.

To be fair, we were decimated on defense. Breaux left in the 1st quarter and that left us with our starting CB's as Browner and Wilson, with only Owens and Dixon as back-ups.

Kikaha got hurt also and left us with Mike Mauti and James Anderson as our OLB's.

This has to be the only reason #39 is still playing.

Swann and PJ Williams, come on down (2016) !

Dennis Allen needs to hear some criticism for this loss too. You can't man up and leave the long side of the field wide open against the most physical/mobile QB in the league and a good RB. Somebody should have been shifted out wide to that side for contain. It should be simple - defenses even know to do this at the high school level.

I was encouraged with the way we play. We were competitive it's just we lack talent and injuries sure aren't helping. We really need a #1 offensive weapon. Need some guard help and D line help. With Lewis and Breaux at corner. Not to mention Swann and PJ coming back next year we should have a solid secondary. Im liking Allen as our DC. Get someone who can constantly rush the passers and we are good. Oh and fire Vitt etc etc.

There literally aren't enough injuries in the world to justify playing Browner. He gets beat on almost every single play, and has no chance of improving. He's not a young player, and he's got a horrible attitude. So what do we do? Put him back out there, of course... Inexplicable.

I don't care who you put out there. You can't keep letting one player get away with murder if you expect your players to respect you.

our OLB can not hold the edge to save their lives.

Disagree Hagan... Our OLB's were asked to cover the slot WR, the TE, the FB, the RB and the QB. They stood no chance.

I tend to agree however I'd like to see at least a few guys get healthy and see if Allen can make them serviceable. Our roster is so depleted that it's hard to see if you have any pieces moving forward.

This all adds up to one thing....Coaches & GM have to go.
I'm hoping we don't win another game this year because until you are totally dissatisfied change can not happen.

While we were competitive today it's not the same as winning. There was a time when we would have won a game like this one.

You forgot about RT. It may be time to move on from Streif, even if he played well today.

The thing is three of our corners are hurt, no wait, four. Who's to say it doesn't happen again?

What happened to the old offense that would force opposing QBs to play catch up? Carolina was not gonna punt on fourth down against us with a narrow lead. It was nothing like against NE, Atl, Ind, NYG a few years ago. That team is missing. That fire on offense is missing. If Cam were down three scores he would have started beating himself just like against Rodgers last year, Ravens and Eagles. We don't do this to teams anymore.

That challenge on fourth down doomed us. We knew the game would come down to the final seconds and SP threw it away.

Yeah that was ridiculous. I was 100% sure we were going to give up the lead after he blew that timeout on what was obviously a catch. And knew we'd need that timeout. It would have saved us a bunch of time and kept us from having to waste a down on the spike. But that's what he does. He only challenges the plays that he has no chance of winning.

Our D give up 41 points, couldn't hold up a 14 point lead. Allen has done no better. Payton needs to open his eyes and find us a proven DC to lead this D. The D started out on fire but fizzed out as usual. Easy pickings for a decent O.

There's a reason they fizzled out...

Starters in the 2nd half...

CB Brandon Browner
CB Chris Owen
CB Brian Dixon
LB James Anderson
LB Mike Mauti

All would be back-ups even on worse teams than us.

I remember a game that seems really long ago when Mike McKinsey come out of street cloths and we had a beat up secondary then to win that game. Allen didn't do so well last night no matter who was on the field, he tighten the D a little closer to the line until Newton loosened us up with the deep ball, Allen did no better than Ryan. Dixon and Anderson made plays.Mauti put a good shot on Newton, actually rung his bell. I didn't think they played that bad being back-ups.

Decent O? That's what we've become?

i'm not hiding my face on this team, if people cant see the hustle and the blood givin the reps they have in the league. their playing like I think their
suppose tobe playing like young and dumb clucks looking for thier momies. they may not be the elite players we all want but I believe we have a run pluggin hole claimers. man were young keep the core and bring in draft choices to hammer down the loose screws; were gonna be alright guys another year is like getting double your no#1 picks with a year in the bag.
1 thing will make me loose hair is joe vitt, its time

We played hard for a quarter and then just gave up on defense.

Stupidity is our trademark;

Keeping Browner in the game when he has a double digit lead in penalties
Putting Stephone Anthony on Ted Ginn as he runs a deep route and expecting us to win.

I wouldn't say gave up, got tired for being on the field with all the 3 and outs maybe. Still it looks to me there is a lack of discipline. Some guys look like they are playing zone while others are playing man. We get caught up in more pick plays than backyard defenses do.

.

We were down to 3 healthy CB's by halftime. We had no choice but to play Browner.

Anthony wasn't covering Ted Ginn on that deep route. We were in cover-2 and Kyle Wilson blew it. Anthony was covering the short middle of the field as he was supposed to. He kept chasing because Wilson wasn't there to hand coverage off to.

Drew can't do it all by himself. He needs an O-line desperately.
