Well Cooks has 1117 yards and 9 touchdowns

Pretty impressive for his second season

That is a damn good season.

He has doubled his receiving yards since last year and tripled the number of TDs with one game left.

Cooks now has 8 TD's in the last 8 games too.

He's had a very good season, if we get a number one receiver to take some coverage away then Cooks could get even better.

Come on Willie Snead, he's just 51 yards shy of 1000.

Props to Tim Hightower too, the guy is a workhorse.

If Coleman keeps improving, we may already have Colston's replacement.[/I]

Coleman shows improvement all the time, Brees is trusting him more and more.

I like it when he gets involved, just hope he can become one of the main guys next season.

Bingo! I still don't understand why this has to keep being mentioned. I agree that a big aggressive number 1 receiver will help Cooks and Snead, but if pressure keeps getting in Drews face, its irrelevant. Now, you can look at it as having that receiver for the future for when we do finally get a beast O line, but who will be throwing to him by then? Much more pressing needs IMO to be chasing a WR with a top draft pick or a top FA acquisition.

I never said with the top pick or the top FA acquisition but it needs to be a pick or one of the FA grabs.

If it is true Colston was already good before Brees threw to him, then having another fill that void is important. Do I trust Coleman? Not in a must win situation I don't. It's like the dolphins game Brees had to throw to Colston to come back in that game. He had to throw to Colston to turn the Thanksgiving game around in Dallas. Colston opened the game up against GB in 08 with that big TD catch. Yeah Brees can turn receivers into better ones but they were not number ones. For example when we go to Arrowhead next year and KC is gonna put the heat on us who is gonna step up and get the saints in scoring position. Do you Trust Coleman or Snead to make it happen in that atmosphere? And you can't run on them. We got killed in Denver in 12 because Colston was bottled up by Bailey, Graham was getting covered and Moore did not step up who we needed to. Even Henderson could not deal with that defense. We could only throw a TD to Sproles after Graham had the first one early on.

He was injured in game ten and out for the season the last 6 games last year

Plus it took Payton until the Packers game last year to actually give Brandon the long ball shots
Even though it was pretty obvious to everyone else to throw it to Brandin

Re: Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead Nearing 1000 yards

I can't agree with those saying O-line play makes the receivers better. The receiver, if he does his job right, should be open within about 2 seconds. But the QB takes a little more time to go through all his progressions, unless he's predetermined who he's going to throw to (which happens plenty).

An improved offensive line would obviously help Brees a lot. But for much of this season our receivers have struggled to get open. Whether or not Brees has time to throw it to them, they should be able to get open. But much of the time as Brees is either standing or running around, you see guys just running vertically with no sort of move to get away.

Snead has been the best route runner. Cooks has come on a bit of late, finally, but I still don't trust him in critical situations to fight for the ball. I guess that's the biggest point I'm trying to make out of all of this... Many of our receivers have been soft.

Nevertheless, I do still believe that offensive and defensive line are the biggest priority. If we get our QB killed, it WILL NOT matter who our WR's are, with all other arguments about receivers aside. And if we continue to let teams run all over us and give their QB's 7 seconds to throw the ball, we will not have enough good players at any level of the defense to stop anybody.

Not so much; but, he's a quality backup, getting healthy...
